Paul Thurrott has posted a screenshot gallery of Windows 7, you know -the one that was handed to developers back in December 2007; well for those who have been living under a rock and haven't seen them yet, follow the link below.
"... A few weeks back, the first external build of Windows 7, the next version of Windows, fell into my hands. I installed it initially in just a virtual machine and took hundreds of shots, and that's what you're looking at here. Essentially, Windows 7 build 6519--dating back to December 2007--is just a slightly enhanced version of Windows Vista.
My guess--and at this point, it's just a guess--is that things will change more significantly over time. But even in this early build, a number of interesting developments emerge. I'll have more to say about that in the days ahead. For now, enjoy this first screenshot gallery. It won't be the last."

From what I have seen from the shots, its just more of the same... boring and gay GUI
Of course it looks the same. They haven't designed the UI yet

Exactly, these are like very early alpha builds. Not even M1 yet. Or wait, probably M1 now since this build is from December.
Really? And how can you tell that it's not straight? Is it coming on to you? Is it trying to get you into bed with it?
Oh wait.... Hang on.... Actually, Windows 7 doesn't even have a gender, so it's impossible for it to be gay or straight.
Interesting observation though. Please be sure to tell Microsoft that you felt same-sex sexual advances from their early build of Windows 7. I'm sure they will appreciate that feedback as much as Neowin does!

ROFLMAO! Nice!
I understood what he was saying, but I agree with you; there were more appropriate terms that could have been used.

Wow... talk about overreacting... granted its pretty immature to call something gay... but man, get over it.
Go give the dog some food
Someone sounds a little unsure of themselves...
How exactly, can an inanimate object such as a piece of software, be gay?

I think by "Gay" he means "Happy" which is the original definition of the word..
How he can tell it is happy is beyond me though.
Actually, 'gay' had a meaning as a negative insult before it referred to homosexuals. People who get puffed up in offense don't even need to know the history of the word, because they just need a cause to make them feel righteous
It is immature to mock something as 'gay' or 'lame', though that has nothing to do with what the word means
Look at the some of those extra features, that he said have been added and they look blurry and not crisp so i say its photoshopped. Also if he did get to try out windows 7 wudnt microsoft tell him not to post anything?
No, why would they?

No, why would they?
yeh but the rest of the image is fine and good quality where as the search bar and taskbar and the windows 7 ultimate text look out of place.
It's still a very early build, everything isn't going to look neat and polished yet.
You have no idea if they are fake, so there's no need to boldly state something you have no proof for. I cannot believe Paul Thurrot would put up fake shots on his site; he is a well-respected and reputable source for Windows information. Just because screenshots have JPG artifacts in them doesn't mean their fake. Have you ever posted screenshots on your website? And what does colours blending in have to do with proving they are photoshopped?

They're definitely not fake. I have access to these builds and these screenshots match up.
I never understood or understand the problem people have with Paul Thurrott. To me, he's a great guy. He knows his stuff. And to my mind there's not even a hint that he's done something or held an opinion that warrants the vitriol that I've seen targeted at him.
Give the guy a break (a general statement). He's just doing his job.
These screenshots are simply not fake. I think anyone who knows anything about Paul Thurrott as a writer knows this well enough.
old news.
No, I believe windows 2000 and previous will go un-matched
Then again, Paint and Notepad have survived since... what... Windows 3?

If it ain't broke don't fix it right? Paint and Notepad work like they should, updating them with newer features would just waste time.
Smell that? Smell like InternetWorld7. Yeah.

Phail. =)
It's a bit too early to see the differences between Vista and Seven: we'll get screenshots to have seizures with in the future.
They don't start working on the visual changes until later. Vista started out looking just like XP, then it eventually became the nauseating yellow-green-blue gradient madness you see today.
everyone just ass-u-med that minwin would be in windows 7 since microsoft said something about it.
i agree i can't see paul thurrot putting fake screenshots up, he has nothing to gain from doing so, of all people.
i keep waiting to hear how they are going to fix the sound system, thats my big question.
MinWin.
Parts of the WinFS technology is already in Vista, true it's not the whole thing they talked about. But bits are there already, and even more in the newer version of SQL Server.
Though it's cool what you could do with organizing your data with WinFS, many like myself manage to keep track and organize our data just fine.

Exactly, WinFS was an interesting experiment, but it just is not useful to most people. Different is not always better. Some people love to bring this up in their silly attacks on vista, but they tried it and decided it was not very good, for good reason imo.
Do you even know what WinFS was?
As I understand it, WinFS wasn't really an end user feature. It didn't so much have to do with you organizing your data as it did with giving developers the tools to replace traditional file or database datastores with the WinFS store.
Bashing an OS this early in developement for looking like it's predecssesor it's quite possibly the dumbest thing ever seen on neowin and I've been here YEARS.
No, it's not. Vista is version 6.0 actually.
(Lol and by the way, paint HAS been updated
it's just Aero, so it's normal that is looks like Vista
if you want to judge an OS, UI is just an aspect
my specs are... AMD Athlon 3500+ 64bit CPU (2.2ghz overclocked to 2409mhz) - Geforce 7900GT 256MB video card - 2GB DDR400 Ram (4x 512MB) etc etc

I've run Vista on a 2ghz single core intel pentium 4 cpu with 512MBs of RAM, Vista is not as bad as 'people' are saying even if you don't have a modern (last 4 years) PC. These vista bashers are simply frustrated losers that see Vista as the end to any fading dream they had of their pet OS taking over, so expect them to bash it as often as possible for that reason.
I thought they were going to build the OS from the ground.
I thought they were going to build the OS from the ground.
They said this was coming out in a few years - you cant make an OS in that time.
Anyhow, I'm sure Windows 7 will suck even more!! Mainly because it seems most of Microsoft's effort is being put into paid subscription services. Wont it be a great day! Windows 7 will only cost you $500 plus another major hardware upgrade and then oh yeah to get anything useful out of it, you also have to buy subscription(s). Sounds like my kind of OS! Sounds like Microsoft is starting to put themselves out of business!! haha Yeah right! Got to love roomers!
I just hope it isn't going to come on a Blu-ray disk and require a 100GB partition to install.
I can say that Windows 7 to Vista will be as Windows XP was to Windows 2000.
