Microsoft is planning to make available to a private group of external testers a first beta of Live Mesh by the end of this month, according to sources claiming familiarity with Microsoft’s plans.

Live Mesh is the future of synchronized storage! Live Mesh would seem to specifically supersede Foldershare; and SkyDrive would have very limited value in such a scenario. Offering a seamless mesh of devices all tied together, including a cloud storage piece allowing for access to information even without access to your devices (kiosk, friend's house, etc.), collaboration on files with the conflicts handled painlessly, and access to a mesh of devices, it could solve lots of problems in a world that increasingly not only uses computers but many types of devices, all with a desire to be in sync.

Skydrive needs a desktop uploader component. Uploading five files at a time via their slow browser interface devalues the service for me.

I'm pretty sure SkyDrive does offer an upload component for Windows.

I really dislike that buzzword, killer this, killer that, killer everywhere. Who started it?

On topic, i think the new live services are pretty good and will give google a run for it's money. I hope competition will sharpen

So who are all these people putting their data online? I'd rather have mine on a thumb drive along with a few indispensable apps. At least you have the option of encryption if you want it with stuff like TrueCrypt .

Do not put anything you do not want inspected on any of MS' online storage services until you CAREFULLY READ the agreement you make with them. It essentially gives them absolute control over your stuff.

Yes, both need to be taken precautions in perhaps not using it for sensitive material, or in that case encrypting it.

Not necessarily because perhaps Google or MS is untrustworthy, but because of glitches, security holes, etc.

There was this police officer who used Gmail as an address where he stored mails related to his work, and this was later exposed. :-p

If the lines are further blurred like in this case with "Mesh", you'd need to be even more careful, as it's then likely to be easier to make mistakes.
