PC vendor Everex and gOS (Good OS), the Linux distribution based around Google applications, is taking the next step in online-based computing by introducing a limited edition MySpace PC. The companies hope that the white-cased, two-pound MyMiniPC will attract what Everex officials claim is some of the more than 100 million MySpace users. As such, it’s the first PC, using any operating system, designed expressly to use with a social network.

It's about time. It was bound to happen that a PC would be expressly designed to be used with a social network.

I actually like the dock used in the operating system, looks cool(d/ling it now and giving it a try). They should have labeled it with facebook instead boo myspace...
btw here is the link to the homepage of gOS (Discover a good os) http://dev.thinkgos.com/

That's true! Even Mac wouldn't have gotten as far without the idea of the GUI taken from Xerox PARC. I'm not sure if the next bit is true (I got the info from Wikipedia), but apparently Xerox PARC was also the first to adopt wide usage of the computer mouse. Go figure!

P.S. Quote pyramid!

exactly! ... cause i think people can only 'innovate' so much stuff... after a while you basically just gotta copy other peoples stuff

cause the way i see it is.... once something (a interface) works well you might as well just copy what already works great cause if it works, it works

Yeh, I have an idea! Lets not take the idea of an x86 or x64 processor and every company making CPUs should make an entirely new chip with no compatibility what-so-ever for older chips or competitors and then hell I think the GUI should be removed from every OS except solaris and... god get over yourself, next it will be 'IF YOU USE SUGAR IN YOUR FOOD YOU SHOULD BE SHOT'

Slogan for new gOS:

"Not only will your MySpace accounts be bogged down by crap and phishers, now your OS can be too!"

They best have auto checkers etc built into this... or enhance it in some way. If all it does it go to the website then it is rather pointless.

Personally I think Facebook would be a better bet, with their developer API and all that.

The everex site says they are already "Sold Out". lol And the design (along with the Linux with a dock) looks like something from Apple, only not as refined.

This is really nothing more than an "embedded device", and probably one of the few things linux is any good for.

How many people are interested in a device to view MySpace??

Very few, I'd imagine.....

Potentially 100,000,000 people, and given it's size, you could wipe the disk, install your own OS and have an UMPC with a whole wad of peripheral ports, so I'd say, quite a lot, I'd imagine.

Considering it's already sold out I'd say you don't know squat

Just curious, but what's with the popularity of saying "fail" and "epic fail" with kids these days? My oldest is picking it up, and I see it more and more in the threads.

It's like a lack desire to discuss what problems are seen overtakes all ability to elaborate.

just google for 'fail', and its pretty easy to catch onto it
personally tho, i think that the MySpace pc isnt such a bad idea , like people's myspace pages usually have music and videos and other stuff going on, which is what a computer should be basically capable of anyway, so a computer dedicated to doing this doesnt sound that bad
