Verizon Sues Time Warner

In the highly competitive and rapidly expanding market of high-speed internet service, Time Warner Cable may have stepped too far across the line with its latest series of ads targeting Verizon Communications. The telecommunications company filed a lawsuit on Wednesday, claiming that its rival's TV ads falsely imply that Verizon's FiOS video service requires a satellite dish, that it does not include phone, broadband and video, and that Time Warner's network is better.

Verizon wants an injunction barring Time Warner from running the ads and a public retraction of the stated claims. "Once customers choose Time Warner over Verizon FiOS, switching costs, inertia, and the perceived inconvenience of switching providers keep many customers from changing," according to the lawsuit. Naturally, Time Warner looks at the matter quite differently. "We feel the lawsuit is without merit and we look forward to defending against it in the appropriate venue," Time Warner Cable spokesman Alex Dudley said.

Time Warner lies about a lot of things. Like that they couldn't afford to increase speeds past 5Mbps and even went as far as trying to have tiered and capped service for the same miserable speeds. Lo and behold, once FIOS arrives Time Warner magically upgrades most areas to 10-15Mbps. Then they tried to pull the same thing with HD. It took DirecTV to force Time Warner to add more HD channels.

It's because of abusive monopolies like Time Warner that America has become a broadband ghetto.

wow talk about lies lies lies... FIOS is complete fiberoptic it sends up to 100Mbit per home (mainly because the OTN only has a 10/100 ethernet port in it right now) internet... ontop of that it has a dedicated phone lines over the fiber optic connection (up to 10 lines!

and ontop of that they do RF over fiber to sent TV over the fiber optic lines! they can with no effort put more channels then most cable networks can on their network... and you do not need converter boxes either... you get analog channels over standard coax cable that goes to the OTN to convert to fiber (basically a HFC node per house) and digital channels go the same way... FIOS is way better then HFC cable networks!

Wow did they just say TW had fiber for over 10yrs? Verizon when they where Bell Atlantic around here had fiber backbones since the 80's! which is all TW is right now is a fiber to the node backbone network...

Comcast isn't much better. They run similar ads on TV that actually angered me.

If I ever have to switch back to Comcast from Verizon FIOS I would, quite literally, cry.

No. Bill Gates stated in an interview that it "was for [his] customers to decide" whether the ads were unfair or insulting to Microsoft's offerings. And he's right. The end consumer will determine the effectiveness of the ads. Some people fell for it and others realized how insulting they were and it harmed Apple's image. The ads were risky to begin with because they had the potential to win over new customers (which they did) but also to deter potential customers (which they also did).

Apple thinks they have the best OS and MP3 Player on the market. I don't think so. Apple is a bully company who stole the technology for the iPod and their software is bulky and buggy. This is why I don't like Apple.

I have Time Warner and listen to this. We pay around 120$ a month for internet alone. We have the highest package you can buy without switching to 200$ Buisness Class. Get 512kb Down and 3mb Up. We are switching to Verizon FiOs as soon as its offered in our area. The verizon FiOs in comparison is 30mb Up and 30mb Down. You do the math. \

Also Sansa E360 is the best MP3 player out right now except for maybe the Zune.

Also I can build a 10,000$ Mac for 1,500$.

Uhhh, I just watched that and I did not once hear them say you needed a dish for FiOS. He said "just to get tv with you now, don't I need a dish?"
