Micro-Star International (MSI) and Gigabyte Technology are planning to launch their low-cost PCs by the end of the second quarter this year, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report citing sources at the two makers.

MSI showcased its Wind notebook at CeBIT 2008, which will feature either an 8.9- or 10-inch panel and will be priced between 299-699 Euros (US$470-1099).

Cant really call that low cost, I could pick up a low end Acer laptop with a 15 inch display at the local wal-mart for the same price

Agreed, they can hardly be called cheap . I have looked at some of the earlier Linux and WinXP models, the way too high price tag made them a gimmick, "being fish nor foul" . Originally it was said that these would be a $200 -$300 mini laptop. With hard drive or solid state storage, and 7 inch screen (which is just about adequate, for someone on the move), unfortunately the manufacturers seem to be taking pi$$ at the $700 price tag. I'm sure they will eventually find a market, once priced at realistically.
