As expected and reported by Neowin last week, Microsoft, via Chris Keroack the Windows XP SP3 Release Manager for the Windows Serviceability team, has announced the release of Windows XP Service Pack (SP) 3 to manufacturing.
Here’s the official word, via a post to the TechNet XP Forum, thanks to sgtLENIN for the heads up:
“Today we are happy to announce that Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) has released to manufacturing (RTM). Windows XP SP3 bits are now working their way through our manufacturing channels to be available to OEM and Enterprise customers.
We are also in the final stages of preparing for release to the web (i.e. you!) on April 29th, via Windows Update and the Microsoft Download Center. Online documentation for Windows XP SP3, such as Microsoft Knowledge Base articles and the Microsoft TechNet Windows XP TechCenter, will be updated then. For customers who use Windows XP at home, Windows XP SP3 Automatic Update distribution for users at home will begin in early summer.

Thanks to everyone here who installed the public betas – you not only gave us detailed feedback but also helped each other out with timely troubleshooting. Through the beta program we found several important issues and were able to confirm some essential fixes. We couldn’t have done this without you.
We will still be monitoring this forum during the next few weeks in case you have more feedback about the release of Windows XP SP3.”

The product only went final today, they are not going to get it released to anyone today.
Ouch, that's a little embarrassing for Neowin. I think just about every tech site was going on Neowin's dates.
# April 29, 2008: Microsoft Update, Windows Update, Download Center
We were right the whole time.

Nope, wrong. TechNet, MSDN, Connect did not get it today. ONLY OEMs got it.

So the 'hooray news about april 21. for vl, msdn and technet' is not gonna happen?
Another whole week of waiting then... oh hell

Attack of the Service Pack delays.
i bet they arn't releasing to to technet & msdn first cause
they know itll be leaked to everyone and spread like crazy
Its staggered so the downloading doesn't overwhelm the servers.
Its staggered so the downloading doesn't overwhelm the servers.
If this is the case, they should learn to embrace BitTorrent technology.
Its staggered so the downloading doesn't overwhelm the servers.
Like they're not gonna get hammered anyway.
That was also the reason it was supposed to go to technet and MSDN subscribers early as well, was only massive presure from subribers that made them bring Vista SP1s realease date forward for subscribers ......they should have learnt from that but obviously havent
Funny, I seem to remember purchasing the product. The fact is Microsoft have taken more than 5 years to bug fix it. I guess you are one of those suckers who pony up for repairs to faulty goods. Service packs were paid for as part of the purchase price - the fact that Microsoft use it's customers as testers is appalling! This could only come from a Vista fanboy (I'm guessing!)
It's practically impossible to find every single bug and exploit within the system when you have armies of hackers attempting to find flaws within it. Hell, not even the "most secure" OS X is flawless. No software is.
But, if you can find me an operating system that is absolutely perfect, send me a message first thing. Or better yet, send it to the Neowin staff so they can put it on the front page for everyone to know.

And i dont get it, why do we have to wait? Driver issues again? Some 'secret inside' issues?
NEXT!
NEXT!
there are two options
1) you don't have a msdn subscription
2) you have one but don't know what it is
It has to be one of these two, otherwise you wouldn't make such stupid comments
Visual Studio Professional with MSDN Professional ($1,199)
Visual Studio Professional with MSDN Premium ($2,499)
...
Cancel a subscription !? HHAHAHAHAHAHA
I am sure the OP doesn't even know what a MSDN subscription is !
Actually vista just took another hit, or didn't you notice? oh wait, you are pretending not to notice, that's what fanboys do...
What hit was that exactly?
Just be careful that when you come out of sleep you're not deactivated by Microsoft. I don't know how you can get any sleep with all those BSODs going off anyway.

Kindly point out what 'hit' you're talking about? Or are you just whining? Because, you know, that's what whiners do...

How does Windows XP entering its final stages with SP3 have anything to do with Windows Vista? For once, how about the pro-XP/anti-Vista and anti-XP/pro-Vista activists for once just shut up and let people choose what they want to use. It's their prerogative, not anyone else's.

Why would they push forward a service pack just because of a few people who are nagging about it and then have to deal with the same nagging people cry about how it's not 100% complete
It's a freaking service pack.

It's a freaking service pack.
exactly wich is why they should release NOW !
if it RTM'd its done. as in 100% complete
also many of us have waited a long time to dump our machines
and do a complete reformat and re-install and we should all know the benefit there right ?
why does this need to be explained endlessly ?
if MSDN subscribers ALWAYS got sp's in advance and they are changing their policy now
then i see why those people are mad.
and it is no burden on MS server bandwidth having us spread it amongst ourselves through BT etc
i think sp3 is so sexy im gonna install it and remove it 2 or 3 times in a row (better than watching porn)
The best way "to be done with it" is to release it. why are they holding it back ?
Do they think if they delay SP3 im gonna rush out and buy Vista ?
Why do we need to bitch about people bitching ?
i'd prefer to read peoples opinions (complaints or not)
then people complaining about the complaining lol
freedom of speech until its the next guys turn to talk i guess eh ?
if it RTM'd its done. as in 100% complete
Why should they have to cater to someone who doesn't pay their bandwith bills simply because they want it now? SP3 offers minor features along with a bundle of patches combined into one. If you're already patched, you've don't have too much to worry about. No reason to be all frantic about it simply because you're totally incapable of waiting.
then i see why those people are mad.

People pay simply to get a service pack a little early?
Do they think if they delay SP3 im gonna rush out and buy Vista ?
Now that's just dumb logic. I feel that those using Vista needed SP1 much more than XP users needed SP3. It only feels right that they prioritize getting Vista's SP1 out there first. But God forbid they do things in an order that only makes sense, right?

Why do people bitch and complain about something they're getting for free? Why do they ask stupid questions when answers can simply be found through logic and the vast information available on the internet. The information is literally at your fingertips, but I guess it takes too much effort to simply find it, right?
I'm all for free speech. However, I believe everyone should at least think before trying to speak or write.
Theres just a bit more to MSDN subcriptions than early access to service packs ... of course you would know that if you had one
You missed the obvious sarcasm in my post. My point was that people don't pay for the subscription for early access to service packs.
What do you want, a prize?
You Vista good matter no you not XP.
why are they releasing it at all? they are gonna stop production in 3 months..
as for my prediction... in this 3 months time.., the demand will be really higher than expected be Microsoft.
i was working in strict non-admin mode in xp for last 2 months and its as good as vista.. just port the nagging bit of vista (UAC) to XP and some other good features.. and xp can rock the os world for atleast 3 more years..
but unfortunately.., this is not gonna happen.
why are they releasing it at all? they are gonna stop production in 3 months..
<trolling deleted>
Operating systems don't instantly evaporate when they stop selling them. Many corporate customers will use XP for years still because they don't want to upgrade an entire enterprise network and risk downtime for their business. Windows users aren't all home users with a short attention span.

1000+systems - single administrator (me)
more 1000 in next couple of months.. almost 500 old pcs going for recycling and new once coming with vista. had to opt this because 20 diff organisations i work for believe that xp has reached its end. period
You are a Troll, not even someone just looking after "desktops", could manage that amount alone. Fool, go back into your cave! "Period!"
agreed.. may be i felt this way because i recently upgraded my machine. but when i think about my clients dumping windows xp machines.., i feel sad!
What a crappy website.
that's based off the server 2003 codebase.
opss.. that is one more week to go..
opss.. that is one more week to go..
and it'll be floating around via torrents in a matter of days.
