Windows Vista users will now receive the SP1 via the Microsoft Automatic Update service, Microsoft has said.

"We're excited about the progress we've made with Windows Vista Service Pack 1. On March 18th, Windows Vista SP1 was made available for customers who chose to manually download and install it from the Microsoft Download Center or Windows Update in English, French, German, Spanish, and Japanese. Last week, we made the remaining languages available - giving WU users the ability to download and install Windows Vista Service Pack in any of 36 supported languages.

Today, we're happy to announce that we are beginning automatic distribution of SP1 in English, French, German, Spanish, and Japanese."

Wait, what? I downloaded SP1 through Windows Update on quite a few different machines weeks ago...

It'll now automatically install, instead of being optional.

Hmm. I still had to manually go out and select the update for WSUS 3 to grab it. What gives?

Hmm, just been downloading/installing manually on the machines I've worked on, having an update that big install via windows update makes me nervous. SP1 is definitely worth the install, Vista works much better.

I hope Vista SP1 will automatically download and install, even if you have certain old or outdated drivers listed in MS KB article 948343.

though some Vista users will not receive SP1 right away from automatic updates.

at least for me, I don't have the old drivers issue as I've already obtained up-to-date audio and video drivers.
