- Once this thing hits Canada, I'm all over it.
C'mon Rogers . . . -

- Yup, it's really getting on my nerves...
The second thing getting on my nerves is that I think Rogers will charge a lot for... absolutely nothing in the end.
5MB of Internet in Canada on a cellphone = way too expensive for a developped country. I just can't believe it. And then you pay like one cent per additionnal kilobyte, which is a total ripoff. I'm pretty sure even the US will get 3G before us... -
#1.2 Posted by Pink Floyd on 26 Apr 2008 - 11:59
- That will be a 3G version so not Rogers
Bell Canada and Telus are going to bid to win the phone
Competion is better for customer, we gonna have better data rate!
I don't care which company is going to win, I'm going to switch for them anyway at any cost to close my actual contract with Bell in Quebec -
#1.3 Posted by +Raa on 26 Apr 2008 - 12:16
- Think thats bad PsykX?
Try paying Telstra's charges for mobile internet!!

thanks for such a useless uninformed post.
3g so not rogers? nice, you do realize rogers has been rolling out UMTS/HSPA network across major metropolitan areas right? they are even currently testing an updated HSDPA at 7.2mbps.
i've been using a 3G device for over a year now.
haha, yeah, bell and telus are going to bid to win the iphone, with their cdma network i'm sure the iphone will fit right in.
dont get me wrong, rogers is pretty brutal with regards to data, and if all 3 companies were gsm based, i'd bet that telus would have been the carrier to get a contract with apple. -

- I'm with you on that one. I have an iPod touch and love it. Add in even basic phone and SMS functionality and I'm sooooo sold. I don't know what's the bloody hold up brining it to Canada. Small east European countries that no one has ever heard of are getting it before us
.
I don't even care about 3G. I plan on just using Wifi for my data needs. The data fees are just way too high on Rogers. I can wait until I can get to a hotspot to do email, browsing, ect... -

Yep, WiFi FTW.
(Rogers is GSM, by the way - in response to a previous post.)

Yea, they're just coming out with something a whole lot of people have asked for since the first iPhone model was released. What a boring move indeed...

- ok so they have finally inovated enough to get 3g, what about the rest of the things it doesnt have....i still dont get the hype on these thigns, i know a guy that has one and his comment was, its good just not as a phone!!!

Oooh! He knows a guy that has a bad comment on the phone! Stop the presses!
Seriously though, if it's good enough to sell, and good enough to have all the 800lbs gorillas of the industry to have "iPhone killer" lineups, then its good enough for hype.
It may not be for you, heck it may not even be for me (which I don't know if it is, being in this weird cell-technology hole that is Canada), but so far it has definitely been worth the hype. -

umm grow up,
so have u even used or seen one. i have used one and seen one, and it did seem pretty, but that was about it, the camera was nice and the multi media capabilities seemd good to me. and when a mac lover tells me its great but not as a phone then i tend to believe him, especially seeing he has been in tech longer than u have probably been alive -

And what does that have to do with general hype. If Bill Gates said he doesn't like the iPhone, and he basically helped make tech what it is now, does that mean that we should ban the product?

- Lol the iPhone what a joke.
-
#6.1 Posted by InsaneNutter on 26 Apr 2008 - 16:56
- I have to agree, my 6630 had 3G and I got that in 2005… for a phone that expensive it certainly lacks a lot of features.
-
#6.2 Posted by Dakkaroth on 26 Apr 2008 - 20:03
- Yeah, I actually got to sit down with the iPhone last night as one of my relatives has one. Played with it for about an hour and wasn't too impressed honestly. Some features are nice yes, but was kind of left with the "that's it?" feeling.

Yea I mean it is a very nice phone but I think thats all it is a nice phone. No real person has any use for it just a symbol if you ask me. The touch screen is cool but useless I really think most cell phones are over rated with the $500+ price tag on most newer phones and the $50-$200 and even higher bills. Until cell phone rates are lower I do not see spend more then $30 to talk on a phone on top of other bills it is a waste of money. -
#6.4 Posted by Julius Caro on 28 Apr 2008 - 10:50
- I've never used 3G really, and I've had it for years. Not even MMS which I've had since 2003. Multiple recipient SMS and "copy/past" should be there though

- Im planning to but an N96, which I think is far better than iPhone and its pretty UI.
-
#7.1 Posted by Magallanes on 27 Apr 2008 - 17:50
- Iphone have a better UI BUT it's two-hand operated.
-
#8 Posted by plastikaa on 26 Apr 2008 - 14:17
- There's better cheaper alternatives. the iPhone should be correctly called an iPod with one of its features being a phone. If you want a phone with music player look elsewhere. I wonder if by 3G they mean they will get to something such as HSDPA 7.2mbps or faster or just some more out of date crap.

- The older one will get cheaper, and that is my time to get one.
-
#10 Posted by +DrCheese on 26 Apr 2008 - 16:03
- That's interesting, I didn't think they would keep the older one on the market but it makes complete sense when you think about it.
Still not the phone for me, but It's good they are adding stuff like GPS and 3g at last, stuff it should have had from day one. Hopefully they will add a camera flash as well

- nice to see apple right at the forefront of old technology
-
#12.1 Posted by LTD on 26 Apr 2008 - 22:39
- Old?
Web apps. Safari Mobile. E-mail. Amazing UI. Touchscreen. iTunes.
You must be from the future where there are even better iPhones! -
#12.2 Posted by plastikaa on 27 Apr 2008 - 11:16
- Everything you listed is neither new or amazing.
Web apps... well of course thats new... "web apps" is Apples word for "special version of a website made specifically for the iPhon and nothing else"
Safari Mobile... just apples version of a browser on a phone
E-mail - what??? how is this remotely new technology
Amazing UI - this isn't really "technology" apart from when you rotate it.
Touchscreen... wake up didnt nokia use one on a phone 4 years ago?
Apple iTunes... just apples version of a music player on a phone
You must be from the past when phones were bigger and heavier than bricks. -
#12.3 Posted by Julius Caro on 28 Apr 2008 - 10:53
- Safari mobile is perhaps the best thing to happen to a mobile phone. It's a full featured browser! It renders things pretty well, unlike all the other browsers. WAP was always a joke, and browsers for PDAs have always kinda sucked. safari on the iphone + multi touch is great. I guess the only thing that was ever close to that was the browser included in the PSP, and that wasn't a phone, and it still sucked a bit !
itunes, email, etc.. I dont care about that.

- I'd have one if I didn't have to tie myself to an 18-month £35 per month contract with O2, particularly when I have a year of a £20 per month contract with Orange left.
No phone is worth that much extra money...

The 3G iPhone will be the "first of an impressive wave of new products" from Apple, wrote Citi analysts Richard Gardner and Yeechang Lee. They also expect an updated Mac laptop and iPod lines. The Apple conference is scheduled for June 9-13 in San Francisco.
In addition to a 3G iPhone release in early June, the 2.5G model could have a "minor casing change" and a price drop to between US$299 and $349, compared to the current $399, wrote Shaw Wu, an analyst with American Technology Research, in a research report.
Those predictions are consistent with a February prediction Gardner made that 3G iPhones will be announced by midyear. The 3G iPhone release will help Apple meet its target of shipping 10 million iPhones in 2008, Gardner wrote at the time. Apple is confident it will sell 10 million iPhones this year, officials said during a conference call on Wednesday to discuss the company's second-quarter earnings.
