According to a New York Times report that a future update of the software for Microsoft’s portable media player may well include a feature that will block unauthorized copies of copyrighted videos from being played on it. Soon after on Microsoft's ZUNE Blog, they set the record straight.
"We have seen some chatter in the blogosphere over the last 24 hours around a couple of posts speculating about what Zune may or may not do in terms of putting content filtering features directly into the Zune family of devices in future releases. We know you guys are following this discussion closely, and wanted to be absolutely clear on this issue:
We have no plans or commitments to implement any new type of content filtering in the Zune devices as part of our content distribution deal with NBC. We think some folks in the industry were expressing hopes for how the entire industry, not just Microsoft, would come to look at content distribution, and some speculation has ensued. Again, no plans are in place toward this end.
I hope this clears up any confusion on the topic, and that you can now go back to enjoying the spring update"

But Zune does suck... My sister had an iPod and then a Zune. She hated the Zune and so did I. It's a horrible pos buggy product.

In my experience I can say the same for ipod.
Or... it could be a stunt by Apple to denigrate the Zune.

You made that claim a couple of times in regards to that story, have you anything to back it up?
Also wireless syncing with my computer is a great feature which the ipods dont have (atleast i dont think so).
I don't own either, but I do own MS stock, plus I purchase and use their products. It's fair to be critical. Have much social grace?
Not when it comes to others being boors.
Get your eyes tested. They sold 10 million units in Q4 last year. And you can't say the Zune isn't a success. It's the 2nd best selling player behind the iPod.
BTW, the only reason it's not in the top 20 in Amazon (do people still shop there???) is because of the iPod Nano's 7 different colour types.
Just more FUD out there to....personally I choose not to read any of these stories.
Get your own eyes tested. Yes, Apple sold 10 million last quarter. The Zune has sold slightly more than 2 million total over its entire life. It is tied for third in the U.S. only. Second place SanDisk has almost 3 times the market share as the Zune.
Do you realize how stupid this argument is? Not only is the Zune likewise broken out by colors, but you are conceding that the Zune can't even beat a single color! Pale green is better than the Zune.

Zune sales hit a million in May last year and since they are selling better now, I'd assume it's more than 2 million by now. Where are you getting your numbers from?
Anyway, sales doesn't equal quality. Witness how many albums Britney Spears and N'Sync sold.
Oh snap!
BTW, my previous argument about different colours; the iPod Nano should be organised into one page and you choose the colour from there. The Zune is like that on Amazon.
As is the iPod. Product pages have pull-downs for colors and HD sizes. Same as the Zune. Distinct colors and sizes are treated as separate models in the Bestsellers List -- same for the iPod and Zune. What was your point again?
On a serious note but I wish they would hurry up and ship the Zune to more regions. I'd have considered buying one 6 months ago when I got my iPod if they were for sale in Australia. Importing was something I wanted to avoid, especially for warranty concerns.
Oh yeah, well you must suck because you say that he sucks because he likes the Zune. Take that, iPod lover!
Amen to that! But to be honest, the Zune software is only slightly better. It's too flashy, and takes ages to load up.

I agree about iTunes, but the Zune software is running great on my machine. It only takes a few seconds to load and runs great once it's up on my 2-year-old Athlon X2 w/4GB running Vista x64. I like it even more with the spring update - they finally filled in the gaps in functionality.
Slightly off-topic - does anyone have any idea what the 2.5 update did for the Zune car kit? After updating my Zune to 2.5 I plugged it into my car kit today and it said that there was an update for "the accessory". It went through an update process and "rebooted" the FM transmitter. I haven't noticed anything different, except that it may have made it slightly louder (hard to tell - might be my imagination).
It has the same firmware as the 8GB so the UI and functionality are identical, but the 30GB has a larger screen so it's better for watching videos. The flash-based devices are theoretically more reliable than HD, but I've had my Zune for 8 months with no issues - and I've already dropped it on hard floors several times, so quality seems good.
Speed has not been an issue, either. It remains to been seen if there will be any difference in speed once they start releasing games for the Zune. The 30GB is lacking the touch-sensitive pad that the flash models (and the 80GB HD model) enjoy, and I believe the newer models also support H.264 - while the 30GB doesn't.
Other than that, the only reason to buy an 8GB is the smaller size - it fits in a pocket much better (as you said, the 30GB is chunky - even the 80GB is smaller).
Btw, I love the new Zune software - especially after the spring 2.5 update. I've heard of some people with older PCs having performance issues, but it runs very smoothly on my Vista x64 box - and the UI as very slick and intuitive. Add on top of that the Zune pass and social (which greatly improved with 2.5) and I begin to wonder why people still buy iPods...
