AMD and Nvidia are ready to cross blades again in June with their next generation GPU families – the ATI Radeon HD 4800 and GeForce GTX 200, according to sources at graphics card makers. AMD is planning to launch its ATI Radeon HD 4800 family in the middle of June.

The first model to launch will be the ATI Radeon HD 4850 with a price set around US$229. The company will follow with the 4870 in the late June, with the same specification as the 4850 but will add support for GDDR5 memory.

Look at the pricing for some Palit 8880GT's. That's dirt cheap already.

I want an MSI 8800 GT. Check the egg. It's the shizzle.

Their naming conventions are getting dumb. Within a few years you'll have to convince an average Joe a Radeon 7000 is more than ten years older than a Radeon HD 7000. Or even now, convince customers a GeForce GTX 200 is better than a 9800 GTX that came out a mere two months ago?

Wow... not even three months has passed since the 9xxx chips first rolled out. Now they're onto the next generation already. By the next decade the 'hardcore' gamers should expect to perform monthly GPU upgrades.

So.. the smaller number is better? Badass! I think I can afford one of them GeForce 2s now.

Well, in that case, I guess I won't be getting a 9800GX2 lol.

9xxx chips from nvidia were just a marketing hit, the performance really didn't scale up accordingly.

However, i look forward to see both AMD and Nvidia new chips come up. They need to raise the bar high an keep the prices low! so we can upgrade from time to time without braking the bank.

I'm more than pleased with my 8800 GTS 320mb, it's a year or more old and it continues to run all the games at high settings, excluding Crysis.

The thing i fear the most about DirectX 10.1 is that i don't want something like the SM3.0 or SM4.0 experience. Just that feature render usable many powerful cards with the new games. I owned a Saphire x800GTO2 Limited Edition that supported only SM2.0.

this is getting stupid now...didn't Nvidia only recently release the 9 series? I'm not upgrading my graphics card till all this silliness slows down (if it ever does...)

9 series should have never been a series in the first place. Its just a marketing ploy.

We are still using the same technology that came out with the 8800 series about EIGHTEEN MONTHS ago. The 9800 GTX is maybe a 10% improvement over the original 8800gts in performance.

Yes theres the die shrink, feature improvements, etc. but we are in an incredibly slow period atm.

Finally something new.
