Via Technologies, a struggling designer of core-logic sets and x86 central processing units, will reportedly utilize new process technology and introduce processors with two cores by the end of next year. While this will boost competitive position of Via’s chips, the company will still be unable to offer alternative for processors by Advanced Micro Devices or Intel Corp. on the mainstream marker.

By the end of 2009 Via Technologies will adopt 45nm process technology and launch its first dual-core microprocessors, a news-story at DigiTimes web-site claims. The dual-core central processing units from Via will be based on Isaiah micro-architecture and are likely to be made by Fujitsu in Japan.

Their chipsets are garbage. I'll stick with Intel and AMD, thanks.

Come on, get the single-core Isaiah out already. The C7 might have been decent, but they're old and need to be updated to keep competative.

EDIT: Oops, Isaiah doesn't compete with Atom.

Intel and AMD have not been without problems on their CPUs and have had bad batches, ones that overheat, bad chipsets etc. VIA might miss the boat in the past, or even now. But you have to admit that sooner or later, they'll get some good systems for most users for considerably less money.

Yeah, and maybe Uwe Boll will come out with a decent movie one day.

lol, kidding of course... well, about VIA not being able to make something decent. Uwe Boll on the other hand is a lost cause.

does anyone even use Via processors here?
Quote this comment #4.1 Posted by cork1958 on 17 May 2008 - 09:39
Yep,
Have one in one of those cheap Everex machines from Walmart. You know, the model with Vista Basic on it? Doesn't have nearly enough oomph to run that crapware Vista, but runs XP Pro and Blag Linux just fine.

What is with the VIA hate?

VIA CPUs aren't meant to compete in systems against AMD's and Intel's chips.

I wouldn't rule out VIA, you know. With the way AMD has been going lately, they might end up being Intel's biggest competition.

Ha-ha. Ha-ha Hahhahahaahhaa.. Oh, that's funny.

No, wait, you were serious.

They're a little behind, they're just going into dual-core while Intel and AMD are at 4 cores and moving to 6/8 cores. And isn't Intel moving into 32nm (?) architecture soon also? This industry moves so fast that to get in it, I'd think they would need to be plan about 3 steps ahead their competitors just to be on the same playing field by the time their chips are out.

VIA is for embedded devices, not really for home based PC's
