The legal battle between motherboard makers Gigabyte Technology and Asustek Computer looks set to be over before it even started, with Gigabyte agreeing to issue a public apology. Tensions between the two companies flared up over "defamatory" comments and comparisons Gigabyte made in a internal document which challenged Asustek's claims of using high-quality components in its motherboards, and the merits of Asustek's EPU energy saving technology and its own DES equivalent.

Asustek took issue with the particularly strong wording used in the document and that Gigabyte failed to present independent test results. Problems also arose from the juxtaposition of an image of "blown" capacitors on an unidentified maker's product alongside an Asustek motherboard, which Asustek alleged was an attempt by Gigabyte to imply Asustek products were of equally poor quality. In response Asustek lodged a complaint with Taiwan's Fair Trade Commission (FTC) and initiated legal proceedings against the Gigabyte employee responsible for writing the document.

What are you on? Asus motherboards are, if not the best, one of the best.

Gigabyte boards are good too, but Asus still rocks.
Asus' support is a bit iffy, but I haven't had much need for them anyways.

At least Asus has a forum, Gigabyte still refuses to make an official forum. They must not realize they're the last major motherboard manufacturer without a forum?

I always use Gigabyte, since 1999, for me and my friends. Never had a problem! It's rock solid.

It's an internal document, doesn't have to be 'true'.

That's what I'm thinking. What part of "internal document" do they not understand? I would sympathize if Gigabyte was putting this in its advertisement, but not in this case. Headline should read, "overpriced motherboard maker gets miffed at document never intended to be public."

The choice is always between Asus and Gigabyte, and I have always gone with Asus. Oh well, not much of a choice..but gigabyte still comes under consideration!

I've dealt with thousands of motherboards in my ten years as a PC hardware tech, and I have to say it's been my experience that ASUS makes nothing but top-quality hardware. (Not that there's anything wrong with Gigabyte's stuff.) So, I can see how ASUS wold not take kindly to a "defamatory" internal memo from Gigabyte. When you've built your company on a reputation of innovation and high-quality hardware, you don't need to put up with your competitor stirring up rumors against you in that area.

In the past I've had 2 gigabyte boards, one died, and the replacement one had major issues as well, since then, I've been using Asus--0 problems!!!----enough said!

I've bought some real pieces of **** from both manufacturers. It seems every time I want to upgrade a video card, I find out that although it should work, it's incompatible with the motherboard. The same thing happens half the time when I upgrade to a new mainboard and processor- the video card doesn't work. My sorry lot.

I have been buying gigabyte products for years, the few asus products I have bought have been nothing short of garbage.... I do not reccomend asus products to anyone who asks me,and will continue to stand by gigbayte's side

I cant believe ASUS was QQ'ing about a memo that was never even public. its just more who kicked the sand in my sandbox bs that I've been seeing a from a lot of vendors lately (esp creative who has always been like that). Stop wasting money on lawyers and start making good products

Everyone has his favor.
According to my good experience with ASUS motherboads, I will still enjoy it.
