HTC today unveiled its next generation business phone, the HTC Touch Pro.

The HTC Touch Pro (HTC Rafael) was rumoured to be announced in last months unveiling of the HTC Touch Diamond but HTC have waited until today to unleash their latest and greatest offering.

The Touch Pro features Windows Mobile 6.1, HSDPA (7.2mbps), 2.8" VGA screen, 3.2 MP camera, 512MB flash and 288MB RAM, Wi-Fi, GPS, bluetooth and a slide out 5 row QWERTY keyboard. All of the specs are backed up with a 1350 mAh battery so battery life shouldn't be too bad on this device. The Touch Pro also has similar styling and the updated touchflo interface introduced with the Diamond.

HTC is working hard to make their devices one hand, one touch capable allowing users to take advantage of their 3D touch interface called TouchFLO 3D. The TouchFLO interface allows users to surf through popular functions of the device such as messaging, calendar appointments and making calls. Thankfully for Windows Mobile we have great OEMs like HTC creating a better user experience than that of Microsoft, many devoted Windows Mobile MVPs, users and customers have been pushing Microsoft to fix simple issues with the Windows Mobile OS since 2000. Microsoft plans to re-invent the OS with Windows Mobile 7 and address many of the complaints.

The HTC Touch Pro will be available to customers across all major European, Asian and the Middle East markets in late summer. The North American and Latin American versions of Touch Pro will be available later in 2008.

WOW! Sweet!
At first I thought they were talking about the HTC Touch Diamond.. which looks awesome as well!

Yeah it's nice huh? If they made the interface just a little better it would be the perfect phone

With people skinning and making new themes for windows, I wonder why we have yet to get Windows Mobile user created themes? I mean the Touch Pro UI is made by HTC but MS lets you do that with the SDK for 6.1 I'm sure.

By the time my contract needs renewing touch screen phones should be nicely matured

To pay (guessing) £500 for, like the diamond almost costs?
#5.2 GP007 on 04 Jun 2008 - 08:33
Wouldn't the Diamond cost more than this? I haven't looked at prices but that would be my guess.

You may be right, a google search result shows the Touch pro to be at around £300, while the diamond is nearly £500.

£500 is still a good price when you take into account that most people are comparing it with the iPhone, which costs nearly twice as much, so it's a bargain!

I don't know where you people shop but here in the NL the HTC Touch Diamond is barely 450 euros. That's about 300~325 pound..

Can't wait for Titanium.

Looks like I'll be a HTC fan, unless Apple comes up with a iPhone - One Hand Edition.

Yeah this handset is looking seriously good.

#8.2 DecoyDuck on 04 Jun 2008 - 18:08
Definitely this for me. More than likely as the T-Mobile MDA Vario IV
#9 MMaster23 on 04 Jun 2008 - 09:54
I shouted from the top of my longs that I would get whatever QWERTY version of the Diamond HTC would give us, but looking the specs...

160gram and 18mm thick .. that's a bit much for me :X
That's just barely thinner then my old HTC Wizard and just as heavy (read: real heavy).

I liked the low-weight of my touch dual. need qwerty tough ... NEED it....
#10 +Raa on 04 Jun 2008 - 10:09
OMFG. In one word? WANT.

But I notice in the spec it doesn't say WCDMA 850MHz. So that rules us Telstra NextG users out then? What a rip.

i wanny on O2 UK, s'il vous plait!
#12 Slugsie on 04 Jun 2008 - 14:01
Hopefully this will be available on Orange at a sensible price when my current contract is up in 6 months. It's exactly the phone I've been waiting for, good big *hi res* screen, good keyboard, and a nice interface. Looks like I'll be on my 5th HTC phone in a row.
#13 +Skwerl on 04 Jun 2008 - 14:48
Finally, a fast processor. My poor little Wing manages to do a lot with 200 mHz, but it would be so much better with this processor!

"HSDPA/WCDMA:
Europe/Asia: 900/2100 MHz
Up to 384 kbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds"

Now that's gotta change to true world-wide specs. HTC is doing their best with the hardware aspect and software frontend and tweakings, but Microsoft is lagging behind major times with the foundation, Windows Mobile. Personally I'm going to stick to my Kaiser until the next update.
#14.1 +Raa on 05 Jun 2008 - 00:39
I personally HAVE to stick with my Kaiser. No 850MHz
#15 jb347 on 04 Jun 2008 - 18:02
This is the phone the mogul should have been.
#16 Airlink on 04 Jun 2008 - 18:54
Nice. I hope they keep the Wi-Fi for the North American market.
#17 j823777 on 04 Jun 2008 - 19:38
From the HTC Product page:

"The HTC Touch Pro combines business with pleasure, offering one-handed operation..."

Henceforth to be known as the 'HTC Touch (yourself) Pro'
#18 Airlink on 04 Jun 2008 - 22:23
That's odd, in the YouTube video it says 4 GB RAM, but the product page specs lists 288 MB RAM with 512 MB ROM. Do they mean 4 GB of on-board flash memory storage?
#19 SirEvan on 05 Jun 2008 - 18:10
triband? blah...think I'll hang onto my BB 8300 curve for now, quad band FTW
#20 mosi on 06 Jun 2008 - 09:03
I currently have the HTC TyTn (Hermes) I wanted a Kaiser as soon as they came out but couldn't afford another phone. However I am able to get a new phone through work in october so I think this is going to be my choice.

I'm currently stuck with a tiny 64MB rom, this new 288MB will be a god send. I have a problem atm with games that use the touch screen due to it using a lot of cpu and slowing things down so hopefully this will be awesome. One thing I do like about this over the Diamond (apart from the keyboard) is tht it can have the external Micro SD card (Diamond can't if I remember rightly) Shame about no 3G but I don't mind too much.
