Microsoft Videos lets us explore and watch Microsoft's collection of online video. The whole experience is built using Microsoft Silverlight platform. The site is a collection of all types of Microsoft videos which includes demos, advertisements, tutorials, press releases, Microsoft Research videos etc. We can scan through Quick Picks for the latest videos, or enter a search for a particular video and we can also choose from one of the given Video Categories. I personally liked the site. It has got some useful demo videos especially for Expression Studio and I being a developer loved it as it isnt quite easy to find free demo videos for Microsoft Expression suite on the Internet.
Though I also think that the site wont really appeal to the average Joe and it seems like the only purpose of Microsoft behind this website is to push their Silverlight technology more into main stream.

So, i don't find any advantage but the fact that you can't install on any machine (currently) while flash is present even on some cellphones.
Silverlight is cross-browser and cross-platform. It should work on mobile devices and *nix OS's in time. Just depends how fast the MONO guys get it going. So far MS has it for Windows and the Mac iirc.

Isn't Microsoft themselves making Silverlight for Linux called Moonlight?
I'd rather see this market in Microsofts hands.
Reminds me of all the struggles I've had with Acrobat Reader too...
(Java Applets do not even count!
Silverlight was announced, and with better programming tools than Flash.
I have used the "Text Editor" panel of Flash
to create ActionScript programs, but it's still very cumbersome.
No wonder there are many efforts to make better ActionScript IDEs
(one of them is based on the Eclipse Platform).
Silverlight is designed from ground up
and does not suffer Monolithic Architecture Syndrome of Flash.
What I am expecting for Silverlight VS Flash,
is that I hope Silverlight is better in handling multiple sprites without slowing down
(or at least have optimizations to "hide" overlapped sprites to help speed the rendering).
They might have also wanted to have a showcase for Silverlight.
But I wouldn't call this as 'pushing Silverlight'.
Pushing Silverlight would be switching from Flash to Silverlight for your popular website (Not that it would happen, but if Youtube were to switch to Silverlight that would be a push)
IE-tab works for that, but when you have something that took a few minutes to get to (by logging in and all), it's just not worth it.

** Support is supposedly coming in Silverlight 2 Beta 2. http://channel9.msdn.com/forums/Coffeehous...ommentID=401618
This is a large problem with Microsoft. They're forever trying to do cool things and look cool, but they always end up looking like your Dad dancing at the wedding disco.
i tried it out, impossible to make cartoons with it. -_-

why is it impossible to make cartoons with it? I've never made any with it but still I see no reason why it shouldn't be capable of that.
