Microsoft Videos lets us explore and watch Microsoft's collection of online video. The whole experience is built using Microsoft Silverlight platform. The site is a collection of all types of Microsoft videos which includes demos, advertisements, tutorials, press releases, Microsoft Research videos etc. We can scan through Quick Picks for the latest videos, or enter a search for a particular video and we can also choose from one of the given Video Categories.

I personally liked the site. It has got some useful demo videos especially for Expression Studio and I being a developer loved it as it isnt quite easy to find free demo videos for Microsoft Expression suite on the Internet.

Though I also think that the site wont really appeal to the average Joe and it seems like the only purpose of Microsoft behind this website is to push their Silverlight technology more into main stream.

Silver light looks like MS version of flash IMO... and on that it works very well love the menu that appears on the hover

My first test showed that.... it's yet a bit slow that the rusty flash.

So, i don't find any advantage but the fact that you can't install on any machine (currently) while flash is present even on some cellphones.

I've got both Silverlight and Flash installed on my PC.

Silverlight is cross-browser and cross-platform. It should work on mobile devices and *nix OS's in time. Just depends how fast the MONO guys get it going. So far MS has it for Windows and the Mac iirc.

Isn't Microsoft themselves making Silverlight for Linux called Moonlight?

SWF 9 specs have been released as well and it's already cross platform...

I'm not a huge fan of Microsoft or anything. But with all the bloat, bugs & BS that's plagued Adobe Flash player....

I'd rather see this market in Microsofts hands.

Reminds me of all the struggles I've had with Acrobat Reader too...

For several years, Flash hasn't faced any competition.
(Java Applets do not even count!

Silverlight was announced, and with better programming tools than Flash.

I have used the "Text Editor" panel of Flash
to create ActionScript programs, but it's still very cumbersome.
No wonder there are many efforts to make better ActionScript IDEs
(one of them is based on the Eclipse Platform).

Silverlight is designed from ground up
and does not suffer Monolithic Architecture Syndrome of Flash.

What I am expecting for Silverlight VS Flash,
is that I hope Silverlight is better in handling multiple sprites without slowing down
(or at least have optimizations to "hide" overlapped sprites to help speed the rendering).

its what flash needed awhile ago... a complete overhule... tho that wopuld kill its existing stance.. Would be nice to see this intergrated into the Office packs as well...

I'd want to see Soapbox shifting to silverlight ( as well as the layout of soapbox changing, but that's a different story) for real marketing of Silverlight.

I guess they wanted such a site, and they used silverlight for it.

They might have also wanted to have a showcase for Silverlight.

But I wouldn't call this as 'pushing Silverlight'.

Pushing Silverlight would be switching from Flash to Silverlight for your popular website (Not that it would happen, but if Youtube were to switch to Silverlight that would be a push)

When they make it so it'll work on Minefield, I'll be happy. I have it installed and everything, but every website I go to with Silverlight says I need to install it.

IE-tab works for that, but when you have something that took a few minutes to get to (by logging in and all), it's just not worth it.

** Support is supposedly coming in Silverlight 2 Beta 2. http://channel9.msdn.com/forums/Coffeehous...ommentID=401618

Silverlight trying to take over from Flash - hmmm isn't about 5 years too late, the amount of websites that use fully use flash are dying out, it was a horrible phase when it lasted, now the most useful tool for flash is streaming video

There speaks a man with some experience. I too remember the God-awful days when Flash was used by everyone and their dog, and how quickly Flash became the new animated GIF - annoying all who encountered it.

This is a large problem with Microsoft. They're forever trying to do cool things and look cool, but they always end up looking like your Dad dancing at the wedding disco.

they need to add opera support.

why is it impossible to make cartoons with it? I've never made any with it but still I see no reason why it shouldn't be capable of that.
