With AMD's ATI Radeon HD 4800-series graphics cards successfully cutting into the US$200-300 mainstream market forcing Nvidia to cut the price of its previous generation GeForce 9800 GTX down to US$199, sources at graphics card makers see AMD's discrete graphics card market share as having a chance to increase to 40% in the third quarter this year from around 30% at the beginning of 2008.

Good on them I say. They are the reason I got jipped with my 9800GTX purchase, but I'm man enough to admit that I think I made the wrong decision purchasing my graphics card. The 48x0 series is looking like a no-brainer purchase, and Nvidia cards can't compete at a price/performance ratio.

Aye. It's nice to have competition again in the discreet graphics market. I purchased an 8800GT a few weeks ago for $150. I knew the 260 and 280 were going to be out of my price range, and I figured AMD's cards were going to follow suit. I, too, wish I waited, but that's technology for you.

Now if we could just have competition again in the mainstream CPU market.

Sorry... No ATI product is going into my computer. Merging with AMD was a great idea. Now I can avoid two companies for the price of one.

And the reason for completely rejecting all possible products from a company for no other reason but their brand name would be.....................? Mindless fanboyism?

Wow. It's not everyday I see ignorance at this level. Kudos.

I can tell you after visiting AMD this past week and meeting with their people and seeing their new products first hand (including the 4870) I can tell you AMD/ATI will be making a lot of strides in the near future that will change the way you look at this company.

Is the ATI of 2003 with the epic Radeon 9700/9800 finally back after AMD ownership? I certainly hope so!

It's about time that they make an epic comeback! Well done.

Finally! ATi is at it's prime once again. The HD 4800 series kicks GPU butt for its price range.

I'll admit i have not even looked at AMD CPU's since the C2D arrived, and the same can be said for their GPU's since the 8800 -- but the 4x00 looks great, and after doing some research im actually seriously thinking of getting a system built on the Phenom.
