US tax payback spent on porn

Advertisement (Why?)
President Bush’s economic stimulus plan, which involved sending out checks of up to $1,200 to every taxpayer, has provided a boom to the online porn industry, according to market research. Research by the Adult Internet Market Research Company (AIMRCo) has found that since the checks were sent out there has been an uncharacteristic increase in spending for online pornography sites.

According to Kirk Mishkin, head research consultant for AIMRCo, "Many of the sites we surveyed have reported 20-30 per cent growth in membership rates since mid-May when the checks were first sent out, and typically the summer is a slow period for this market." The checks were suppose to be used to provide a stimulus to the flagging US consumer sector but the research found many people were using them for a different kind of stimulation.

Sigh @ Americans....

Lets make your national debt worse thanks to porn...
#4.1 ricknl on 06 Jul 2008 - 01:04
What are you talking about? How can this increase the national debt?

Secondly, UK has more to worry about debt as their population is 1/5 of the US and they have very comparable debt.

This is genius at work!

1 ) Get $1200
2 ) Buy $1200 of Porn
3 ) Place purchase in compatible media device
4 ) "Warm up"
5 ) Go to the sperm bank
6 ) Make a "Deposit"
7 ) Go have a cigarette
8 ) wash, rinse and repeat from #4

6 months down the line, you've got to be getting close to a profit!
#5.1 +Dakkaroth on 06 Jul 2008 - 01:06
Not exactly. You decided to throw cigarettes into the equation which now sort of ruins the whole "profit" idea.

Yes, I realize you're joking, but cigarettes alone are a joke in price.
#6 Foub on 04 Jul 2008 - 13:29
Why this sort of thing doesn't actually work and makes things worse....

Nope it's check. We spell lots of words differently then the Brits. I read it was because we wanted to break with them in many ways after our independence which happens to be today.
#7.2 -Vivicidal- on 04 Jul 2008 - 14:13
The 'que' makes the word sound more european.
#7.3 C_Guy on 04 Jul 2008 - 14:52
AHEM...

Check is the American spelling.

Cheque is the Canadian spelling.
#7.4 plastikaa on 04 Jul 2008 - 16:44
Check is the American English spelling and Cheque is the British English variation (this is unusual - usually American spellings are variations of British ones as American English is not a language in its own right, but rather a dialect of the English Language, which since its existence has created new lexical items.)

I believe the word cheque was one of the few spellings created after the "creation" of American English by the British, and so Cheque should not be used in American English, however the use of the word Check is probably valid to some degree in Britisth English, however most spellings are becoming more trivial with globalisation - the main difference is British and American is pronounciation "rules".

On a side note, Cheque is probably deemed Canadian also, as the spelling "Cheque" by the British probably originates from French.

Probably, in Spanish "check" is "cheque" and Spanish and French are a derivation of Latin.
#7.6 Julius Caro on 07 Jul 2008 - 12:47
Cheque sounds to me like it comes from french and not english.
But my spanish dictionary says that it comes from "English cheque", so I guess that cheque was first?

So Gee Wuyah gives you $1,200 and you spend it at online sites for pr0n?

You people (using an americanism here) dumb?

Keep the money and get it on bittorrent or rapidshare for nada!

Yeah that's a good idea, stealing.

Do yourself a favor and look up "stealing" on the Internet. See if it's what they call a "crime" and if so what implications that has.

The actus reus of theft is usually defined as an unauthorised taking, keeping or using of another's property which must be accompanied by a mens rea of dishonesty and/or the intent to permanently deprive the owner or the person with rightful possession of that property or its use.

Copyright infringement is not stealing because you do not deprive the owner of any property. Maybe you should look up the meaning of "stealing".

Whether or not the unauthorized downloading of copyrighted material is a 'crime' is still up for debate. Morally ambiguous at best.

I bought me a shiny new PC with my money, now even more free porn!
(1 reply) #16 +Troll on 04 Jul 2008 - 20:03
Eh, those spending money on porn are the ones who probably need the tax rebate in the first place to reduce the maxed out credit cards. People need to accept personal responsibility before wondering on the state of our economy.
#16.1 ChrisJ1968 on 05 Jul 2008 - 01:37
the public isn't the reason why the stimulus was in the first place. AGAIN, we(our govt) went to china with a bag and said, "please sir may I have more" like Oliver twist and then they sent out the money to the public.

Our country has borrowed more money from China that we can never pay it back. hope someone here knows chinese to teach us.

Let's see, the "research" was done by a group called the Adult Internet Market Research Company.
Guess what this "research group" focuses on. That's right - the Adult Internet (that means pr0n folks!)
After an exhaustive internet search (at least 10 minutes) the ONLY reference to this group I found was for this "story."
For god's sake there isn't even a listing with their web address (www.AIMRCo.com - real impressive BTW).

I call BS on this.

Any increase in pr0n purchases is almost certainly directly resulting from increased GAS, FOOD & ENTERTAINMENT PRICES. Instead of taking a real girl out on a date and getting some, you lamers are staying home and WHACKIN!
