Gigabyte Technology, a leading maker of various computer components, this week announced its low-cost small form-factor mobile computer that will compete against systems like Asustek’s Eee PC or MicroStar International’s Wind. Unlike the competitors, Gigabyte M912V is a tablet PC, hence, features touch-screen. However, the novelty may not be as affordable as its rivals.

Gigabyte M912V comes with 8.9” screen with 1280*768 resolution and is based on Intel Atom N270 (1.60GHz) processor as well as Intel 945GSE and ICH7-M core-logic with integrated graphics core. The notebooks will be equipped with 1GB of DDR2 memory, 160GB hard disk drive, memory card reader, ExpressCard slot, 1.3MP webcam, Ethernet controller, Wi-Fi controller, Bluetooth controller, audio outputs, USB ports and so on. The weight of the machine is about 1.3Kg (2.86 pounds).

It's not a tablet - it's a convertable. Sign me up if someone ever decides on a tablet in this sort of size/weight.
And how affordable is affordable?

I'm guessing less than $1000 but more than $500.

If it retails for less than £300, I'd be somewhat interested. If it retails for less than £200, it's mine.

"Various models of the Gigabyte M912V mobile systems will feature Microsoft Windows XP Home, Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic as well as Linux operating systems."

They don't seriously expect anyone to run Vista on that thing, do they?
