Radiohead has released a new music video in a very unique format. The video was created entirely without the use of cameras. Instead the makers of the video employed visualisations from a scanning system called Geometric Informatics and location shots created using a Velodyne HDL-64E that utilises pulsers from a laser diode. All this data is now available for the public to use and create their own versions of the video.
This has come about because of a link-up with the Google Code site, where the information can be downloaded along with a visualiser. You can essentially re-edit the video in an application of your choosing.
Once you have done this, you can upload it to YouTube, where a group has already been created to show off your work.
James Frost, the director of the video, had this very Radiohead thing to say about the project: "In a weird way [the project] is a direct reflection of where we are in society. Everything is [computer] data. Everything around us is data-driven in some shape or form. We are so reliant on it that it seems like our lives are digital."

Yeah, real deep. Oh, is that the time already....
Awesome.
The fact is, Radiohead and NIN are spearheading change in an entire industry.
This is certainly laudable, regardless of what you think of the music. (unless you work for a record company

I'd hate for a news posts (or the comments of that post) about a band mention anything about the bands' music.
they are pirates masquerading as pioneers. Look at some of the smaller netlabels for true pioneering in the music industry. Radiohead are riding on their success and they (the net labels etc) are getting no recognition for what they started... tut tut mr Yorke

This technology is cool, but i don't see how people would make their own versions as it is really just Tom's face singing...
The other "views" don't have any sort of animation, maybe i'm missing something.
I wonder what the music industry is thinking with groups going you-name-the-price way and then making a music "video".
The live version rocks too.
If they picked the best song people would still love the video regardless of if it was pants cos the song would carry it.
