Apple computers have enjoyed an excellent second quarter of 2008, with sales growing faster than any other manufacturer.Gartner is reporting that Apple’s sales grew 38 per cent over the period and the company now has 8.5 per cent of the US market. HP consolidated its position as market leader with over 11 per cent sales growth, giving it a market share of 31.9 per cent. Overall the decaying economic situation has proved something of a boon to PC manufacturers.

My reaction too; and the numbers, 300,000 more units! damn, its going to be an upwards cliime to get close to HP and Dell though. Then again, a quality user base is better than millions of people who would sooner pirate software than buy it.
Get real, this is old news and everyone already knows lol.
Or are we talking about real switcher to OS X?
Or maybe the fact that many website said that Apple computer where the fastest to run Vista (at the time when Vista came out)....

A combination, but I think that the delays in the past stopped many people from going for Mac. Now, if you want a Mac, you can get one straight away without massive delays. The performance is better, the price is better, and most importantly, the opening of the Apple stores and improvement of their resellers have helped inform the public of the alternative out there.
Well that would explain Vista's record-breaking adoption rate.

Nice spelling mistake on capitalize! rofl!
For the record, capitalize is the proper way in the US and Canada. I know in the UK and Australia (and others) it's spelled with an S, though.
As for +M16Labs comment: "a quality user base is better than millions of people who would sooner pirate software than buy it."... Does this include Apple iPod owners too? I guess his excreta doesn't stink, either!

Bloat? you ever look at what all the files actually are? the "bloat" isn't even what you guys think it is... BTW besides 64-bit vista, where is this 10Gb? btw Gb is giga-bit GB is giga-byte 10Gb is only 1.25GB

Maybe you should read peoples comments before opening your mouth. +M16Labs never said that, *I* did,
An iPod user is not a Mac user. iPods and Macs are completely separate product lines.
The fact that when you look at the statistics for the average Mac user (and demographics) and the rate of piracy; the simple fact of the matter, there is no use running around screaming how many Windows users there are (as Windows advocates do) when a good many of them pirate their software.
Photoshop being the most pirated software on earth next to Microsoft Office and Windows itself - yes, that does include licence violations too.

Alot of these people who scream bloat look at the 'free space' and ignore the fact that Windows has a pre-allocated swap size by default based on how much memory one has installed.
Even when you take that into account, most of the 'space' is actually taken up by drivers which are in a basic cabinet file within the Windows directory. I swear, if this operating system didn't have the big ass cabinet file, we would have people here whine that there isn't enough drivers included with it!

Yeah reallly... drivers Apple has to support is miniscule compared to what Windows has to support... I think there was what 36,000 drivers in Vista at RTM with more added in SP1..
How about the fact that they their shipments are growing as a percentage share of the over all market at a higher rate. When they grow faster, their marketshare is higher, which means they're moving up. In the US market they are third place behind Dell and HP. With that being said, its going to be atleast another 4-5 million units before they overtake HP

Apple overtake Dell and HP? I don't know about you but I still don't know anyone who has an iMac except me with my Mac Mini. The computer everyone has that I know is an HP and some Dells with a few custom built ones, but a Mac isnt even on the radar yet.

I really doubt that by the time Apple overtakes any of them, that anyone would care. I'm pretty sure in the future people will be more open and relaxed rather than self indulging fanboys. Buy hey it's Apple, and its greatest advertisements are brainwashed, arrogant, and annoying people that are among the people.
But if I was Steve Jobs, I would be laughing so hard at all the people who basically pray to their iMac everytime it boots up.

True; I guess being the 'under dog' creates a siege mentality which alot of Mac users have unfortunately; almost like an example of a group of people without enough self esteem.
You can find an apple product for under $20???!?

You can buy horrible iPod headphones with Apple logos on them. Or you can buy a great pair somewhere without the logos.
And Macs are only easier for a lot of home users that dont want to use a real computer. Macs in a networking environment are a PITA. Especially if you are primarily MS and have to connect a damn Mac to the network and make sure everything works correctly. Hell, the latest OSX cannot even see the network shares without a bunch of tweaking. We got 4 new Mac Pros in and its been a PITA. The earlier OSX worked just fine. Talk about consistency (input sarcasm here)
And the comment about Macs being less stressful is just funny as hell to. I cannot wait until Macs start getting hit hard with spyware and viruses. You know its coming and its a matter of time before they get hit. Especially with all the latest advertising and Apples market share increasing. Then all the security holes, bugs, and whatever else will come out of the wood work. I will then have fun laughing at all the cocky Mac people. And speaking of Viruses and spyware, I havnt had any on my 6+ systems in 10 years. Why? Because I know how to use a computer.
Vista only got a bad rap because it requires a major hardware upgrade in a lot of cases to run. Has anyone looked at a Mac Pro? It requires a lot of the same hardware to run their OS. MS never had a huge hardware requirement before Vista. So now people wining and making a big fit because they have to stop being cheap and actually buy/build a decent system.
Oh, and Apples market share is also increasing because of their hostile advertising. Everyone has seen the Mac ads where they have a PC guy and a Mac guy. The ad pretty much bashes MS during the whole thing. Hmmm, funny how Apple has to resort to these advertising tactics in order to sell their products. I dont see and MS bashing Apple ads.
And dont get me started on their hardware either. I mean, there is no EJECT button for the CDROM drive. You have to hit the eject button the the keyboard and that only works when OSX is running (i havnt found a way to eject it during boot up). I replaced a hard drive in a Mac Pro recently, because it crapped out, and had to get the old HD to boot first so I could eject the CDROM drive and insert the OSX disc. Then I had to shutdown the Mac, plug in the new hard drive, and then install OSX on the new drive. PITA! And this is just one of many complaints I have about some of their harware.

Then grow some and post a reply
But that's true! Macs, IMO, are good for personal use...but in a professional environment...they're pretty useless due to the "dumbing down" of the interface. Like the above poster said...they're PITA in a networked environment. I tried retrieving a file from a network share and my old powerbook couldn't simply show it as available...it would for a while...then suddenly disappear.

You could always connect to it manually; its not particularly difficult thing to do.
If only that worked...it doesnt consistently.
I used Macs in a semi-professional environment. We did video capture to convert tapes to digital, edited the video, created DVD layouts, and then burned the video to DVD. We had four (and at one point, five) Macs wired together. One of the systems with two NICs was running SquidProxy (acting as an internet gateway server to the rest of the systems on the LAN). We also had the systems wired up into a grid so that encoding tasks were distributed across all available systems. Systems were running operating systems from 10.3 to 10.5 and there were no issues. All systems were PowerPC-based.
It's nowhere near a huge business network, to be sure, but I don't recall having any network issues. If you wanted to start digging to do more complex things the options were there. Just because a directory is hidden and you need to open up a Terminal window doesn't mean that you can't start editing system files if you really need to, even if it does feel a little frustrating.
We did have one Windows XP system on that network, and working with it was a big pain. The Macs could see its shared directories and could send and retrieve files without any issues, but the WinXP system simply wouldn't take the gateway information and it was a bit more finnicky about the network shares on the other system (which had to be set up using SharePoint).
Before taking that job I had purely been a Windows user for my entire time in computing (~7-9 years) and had begun to look into Linux for fun. I'm far from being a novice user. Windows networking was a nightmare for me on my home networks, and my experiences in that work environment were quite positive. Macs really did "just work." I have no doubt that Windows systems could have done much the same, but I dread the prospect of having to wire up a network of Windows systems similar to the setup that I described.
As a disclaimer, I'm not a Mac fanboy, and I know that my anecdotal evidence is pretty worthless in the grand scheme of things. I've had some networking issues between two Macs in the home environment, as well - they're not perfect. I think that you should use the operating system that's best suited to you and that will let you get your work done the most easily. Enjoy computing. If it's business, examine the options and see whether it's realistic that the Mac technologies could serve the business well. Just because it's a Mac doesn't mean that it can't be used in certain (or any) business environments.
Its basic math (and some science). A lot of people are stupid, arrogant, cocky or all of them like Mac fanboys (not the same as USERS). Take it like this:
Windows = 95%, Mac = 5%
95x is 18 times higher than 5x
18 times more problems found and reported than Mac users by DEFAULT.
Then you take into consideration that about 1/2 the people on Mac have switched and have experience with using a computer. So multiply 18 again by 2.
So its 36 problems on PC per 1 Mac problem, again, by DEFAULT. Give or take and you see that Mac has more problems than Windows, its just that Windows are more frequently reported as a result of the population.
And u must me an Apple fanboy then since alot of the comments were bashing Vista. If you are going to say that my post is nonsense, then at least have the balls to PM me or post here about it. I dont care if you think its nonsense as this is a discussion.

At least try to spell properly.
If you were using a Mac, it would have spell checked that post for you, and you wouldn't have looked so idiotic.

hahahaha...whatever dude...nice argument. If i wanted to spell check, I would. I see all the underlined red words and I just dont care. If I am creating a document for work, then I worry about spell check. And thanks for calling me an idiot...made my Friday morning
Your grammar is awful as well.
Obviously he doesn't use it.
I wasn't suggesting that Windows didn't have spell check, but rather that if he were using a Mac it would have corrected his spelling issues automagically.
I never bashed Vista, and I've never owned an Apple computer in my life. I just get tired of seeing idiotic posts like that saying Macs are for dumb people and so on.

Never said you bashed Vista. I said that a lot of the comments here were bashing Vista and was not just people bashing OSX or Apple. So may be you want to make comments at all the "idiotic" posts concerning Vista.

It'll be interesting to see how many run Windows, and how much of the time they do. I have a feeling it isn't so much Windows but the improvement in the sales channels.
It's because of Vista.
It's because of Vista.
Well, judging from the news that you posted this comment in, I assume you mean that Apple is selling more computers so people can run Vista on them. Or were you just being a hideous troll as usual?
That's pretty funny too.
