Apple skewered over missing DNS patch

Apple has come under fire for failing to patch the critical Domain Name System (DNS) flaw which prompted a (rest of) industry wide response earlier this month.

For anyone just back from a trip up the Amazon, the discovery of a domain spoofing vulnerability by security researcher Dan Kaminsky sparked a massive patching effort that began on 8 July. Dozens of vendors - including Microsoft, Cisco, Ubuntu and the Internet Systems Consortium, which maintains BIND - released updates that mitigated against the risk of cache poisoning attacks, which stem from security shortcomings in the protocol itself rather than coding errors.

You mean Apple...isn't perfect?

i think they mean Apple is far less than perfect for being the only DNS server vendor not being able to patch their product yet...it's a disgrace. Luckily, not many isp or web hosting companies use OSX

This and the Safari Carpet-Bombing flaw make me think that Apple just don't put customer satisfaction at the top of their list of priorities.

Mmm, yeah, compensating MobileMe users for the problematic switchover from .Mac never happened.

Okay let me rephrase, "...just don't put customer safety at the top of their list of priorities".

Apple obviously has better things to do... like coming up with different colours for the iPhone or creating some more adverts labelling PC users as nerdy middle-aged men with no social life. They haven't got time to be worrying over silly stuff like product security.

Macworld 2010

Good morning everyone, we have a bunch of new Apple products to show you today. I would also like to announce that Apple now controls 40% of the computer market, a staggering feat. *applause* Now I know that with a much larger market share, OSX is being targeted by criminals. Unlike Windows which was insecure from the beginning, OSX is now insecure because of its vast popularity as the worlds most secure OS. To combat this new threat, we have developed an innovative new program. Let me introduce you to iVirus, the worlds FIRST anti-virus program. *euphoria of applause* Here let me show you, it scans the computer in real time and updates daily, Un-be-liv-able! *Applause*. This new service will be integrated with MobileME and you can be sure that your Mac will still be secure for only $59.99 per month. *Applause*
