The bitter conflict currently ongoing between Georgia, the former Soviet republic, and Russia over the Georgian province of South Ossetia appears to have migrated online. The Georgian presidential website and other government sites have apparently been targeted by a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS) – a malicious attack which aims bring a computer network to a standstill by flooding it with useless traffic.
The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set up a blog hosted on Google in which it states: “A cyber warfare campaign by Russia is seriously disrupting many Georgian websites, including that of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”
A similar attack occurred in early July of this year on the website of Georgian President, Mikhail Saakashvilli.

It is funny how several days ago the Georgian President was showing his power and how yesterday he wanted to sign a peace treaty.
By the way, why politics here at Neowin?
It's not about the politics, it's about DDoS'ing.
To limit Saakashvili's endless stream of hysterical propaganda, which hurts Russia's image in the West.

russia doesnt need propaganda to hurt its image, its doing a fine job by itself of looking like idiots
Must be very frustrating for Georgia to have their web sites down, when at war, also funny, that Google maps of this area comes up with blank pages too! Is this an information war?

What do you mean google maps comes back with blank pages? it shows maps and sat images fine here of the whole country
Again , Georgia didnt fire (if they fired anything at all) a single bullet outside their borders.

So you are saying that USA is UK colony? And if Britain bombs USA it would be perfectly legal?

Technically South Ossetia is an independent Province of Georgia, not part of Russia, so TECHNICALLY they never shot across any border, especially since South Ossetia isn't internationally viewed as an Autonomous country.

You see there is this body called the U.N which means the United Nations , in this body , all countries in the world take votes , pass resolutions and all sorts of global activities.
Georgia is a member in the UN, so are the US and the United Kingdom, Ossetia is not because it is not a country.
No, they just fired hundreds of rockets and artillery shells at unarmed civilians inside their borders. It's called ethnic cleansing, and Milosevic went to the Hague for it. Saakashvili should join him there.
As long for its civilians, they have voted for their president and now they enjoy the fruits of their votes.

What war? with who? what Ossetia has to do with Russia? who said Georgia committed any offensive there? the Russians? for almost 80 years the Russians had the biggest propaganda machine in the world , bigger even than China's.
My family is from former Soviet Union , each one of them agrees that russian tv (which is 100% owned by Putin) is broadcasting the same lies they been fed back in the USSR.
Russia been plotting this since NATO had plans to add Georgia .
It's independent republic with it's own passports and all. >90% voted for independence. 80% of population is Russian.
>who said Georgia committed any offensive there?
Bulletproof facts did.

Also Georgia blocked millions of sites themselves (like China).
Mind war fare mannnnnn.
But yes, get use to Cyber warfare. Americans are really going to be ticked when we fight a country that brings down our internet. Yet, American citizens have no plan to deal with it, we just continue on with our lives like nothing could ever happen to us. Sad.
So... the Russians attacked themselves? I could have sworn that was Georgian artillery killing South Ossetian civilians before Russia intervened.
