A three-alarm fire burned Tuesday night at the Apple campus in Cupertino, according to the Santa Clara County Fire Department.

The fire department received a report of smoke at about 10 p.m. at 20605 Valley Green Drive, at a building known as Valley Green 6.

No injuries are reported and the building was cleared, according to a fire dispatcher, who said that the fire department was not certain when the blaze would be under control.

Did the semi-annual 'Burning of the Non-Believers' get a bit out of hand last night?

For all those making jokes - Grow the hell up.

This is loss of property - bad for ANYONE - Whether it be the nextdoor neighbor you love/hate, or a major corporation you love/hate.

Sometimes I truly wonder what the average age of neowins readers is.

Well, yes, it's bad. However, the fire has now been contained, no one was hurt, and I think Apple has enough money to recover the losses. Would you rather people be, and pardon the pun, flaming Apple and their products?

I do hope the damage wasn't too bad, though.

No I wouldn't.

I've had friends lose everything because of a fire. This isn't something to joke about at all, about anyones loss.

Sure insurance will pay for this, however that doesn't recoup the losses 100%.

And if this was indeed in the R&D dept, as some news sites are saying; a lot of trial hardware/paperwork may have been lost, which may never be re-gained.

If it's anything important, there will likely be multiple copies of it. Mirrors of important data are almost always kept off-site.

Lighten up. If you can't take a joke then perhaps it's best you simply avoid talking to people, rather than attacking others. Insurance is there to cover losses from a fire... material possessions are irrelevant.

I'm pretty sure that Apple, being the size and importance to the industry and the world as they are, have multiple backups of every bit of code and product design stored in other buildings and locations at Cupertino, as well as using offsite archival companies such as Iron Mountain, etc.

Since there was no injuries or fatalities and the damage was only to propertly, I think that it's ok to reduce the "seriousness factor" down a few notches.

With that said, I wonder if the Master Control Center for the "Steve Jobs Reality Distortion Field Generator" was damaged at all?

Woot:
CUPERTINO, Calif. (AP)—Firefighters have put out a blaze that burned for more than three hours at the headquarters of computer maker Apple.
Apple spokespersons said that the fire was a normal event and that their groundbreaking management techniques were simply designed to run hot. Firefighters were not allowed to open the doors themselves and were instead instructed to make an appointment at the Genius Bar.

Its what happens when you hire someone that always desperately needs their Red Stapler.

I'm glad no one was injured. This is serious. It would be nice to see more companies/apartments/households have better fire protection installed. Fireproof walls and sprinkler systems are really easy and generally cheap to install.

I hope for Apple's sake and the employee's sake that all their IP/source code is remotely backed up.
