Thanks Emil for pointing out that the Windows 7 Engineering blog has gone live. Its authors include Steven Sinofsky is in charge of the Windows and Windows Live Engineering Group and Jon DeVaan heads the Windows Core Operating System Division. There have been 2 posts on the blog and they don’t include any useful info.

So far Microsoft has been very tight lipped over Windows 7 and what were likely to expect from Vista’s successor. There have been a few hints with the leaking of Windows 7 M1 build in January Microsoft also said there will be some sessions at this years PDC Event covering Windows 7

Does this article tell us there is a new blog to read, but then doesn't provide a link to the blog??

Ohhh I'm starting to get excited about Windows 7 now. I always get excited about a new OS.
Hopefully it'll make up for Vista being a bit of a dud (I still think it's a decent OS, it just wasn't as great as it was supposed to be).

And for the hell of it, here's a completely irrelevant and pointless comparison

Alien           > Aliens          > Alien 3   > Alien 4
Good           > AMAZING    > let down > not quite AMAZING, but better than the 3rd one
Windows 98 > Windows XP > Vista      > ????

Where is 2000 in that list? lol. And I really don't think Vista is a letdown, rather, add this to your comparision list:

(this is average human stupidity/intelligence)

Smart > Average > Retarded > ????

What I am realizing about peoples perception of Vista like Kushan is they have fairly little knowledge of technology. Its mostly a case of bragging rights just to type out a bunch of versions of Windows and feel like you have been around a long time and know a lot about the OS. The only problem with Windows Vista is the way it was marketed and it took too long to reach market.

Compatibility and the openness of Windows Vista to the public throughout its development left a lasting impression on the OS. When you look into the past, new releases of Windows always had compatibility problems with existing hardware and software. XP had it, 2000 had it, 95 had it, but over time things ironed out. New releases of Windows used more RAM than the previous version, this is a fact (that probably another problem with how Vista was marketed, the minimum requirements fooled people). In addition to that, OEMs and Intel's fiasco with the not up to par 9xx integrated graphics made Vista bare the brunt of objections, in addition to OEMs equipping systems with inferior amounts of RAM, less than spectacular device drivers and even nVidia's recent spate of lack luster drivers for the OS since it hit market in January of 2007.

Vista is a release of Windows that people a gradually beginning to accept and appreciate. Whether its the security, search, built in apps like (Windows DVD Maker, Movie Maker, Photo Gallery) and so on. People enjoy using Vista and want to do more and learn more about their computers. I personally only used Windows in the past for a few things, games, surf the net, use Office and call it a day. Now I am more in tuned with consumer focused activities, taking photos, managing and organizing them, recording video with less focus on the focus on securing my computer and acting like I need to have a Fort Knox mentality to have good experience on the computer. Vista certainly has changed how people enjoy their computer and will change how applications are developed, how device drivers are written and will just be a foundation that people look back on 10 years from now and say, Microsoft really did a good job.

Hold on here, if we're going to call people out (like me) for not having much technical knowledge, then allow me to call out Mr. Dee!

My exact sentiment was that Vista wasn't as good AS IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE. Right? Lets double check that -

(I still think it's a decent OS, it just wasn't as great as it was supposed to be)

Yup, that's exactly what I said.

It's EXTREMELY well known that features were cut from the OS left, right and centre before it finally got to us, hence the "not as great as it was supposed to be" remark. That doesn't make it a bad OS, that doesn't make it a terrible OS, it just makes it a bit of a let down in terms of what was promised and what we ever got. It's basically the OS that Peter Molyneux would have designed.
In the end, despite all the lovely changes under the hood, all most people seen was a fancy looking window system and lots of **** that had been moved around the place. It DOES have issues, it DOES have problems and the people that don't admit that are just as bad as the people claiming the OS is completely terrible. At the end of the day, it did a lot of things right, but got some things wrong at the same time.
That's not to say I think it's a bad OS, I don't. It's decent, I can do everything in Vista that I can do in XP and it has a great deal of improvements that I appreciate (separated sound volumes for each app? Yes please!). I even love the networking that so many people have problems with! So what exactly do I have "little technical knowledge" about?

Yup, and I can confirm that too. Besides it still looks like Vista anyways, the real changes begin in beta 2 for those who like the new visual UI coming (if still planned, we will see)
