In a bid to better compete against ATI Radeon HD 4870 graphics card, Nvidia Corp. plans to add another product into the GeForce GTX 200-series lineup. Few details are now clear, however, another card in the family will almost surely make Nvidia’s products more competitive in the lineup.Currently Nvidia and its add-in-board partners sell two versions of the GeForce GTX 200: the premium-class GTX 280 with 240 shader processors (SPs), 80 texture units (TUs), 32 render back ends (RBEs) and 1GB of GDDR3 memory connected using 512-bit interface as well as high-end GTX 260 with 192 SPs, 64 TUs, 28 RBEs and 896MB of GDDR3 memory connected using 448-bit interface. The GeForce GTX 280 has GPU clocked at 602MHz, SPs operating at 1296MHz and memory working at 2214MHz, whereas the GeForce GTX 260 is clocked at 576MHz, 1242MHz and 1998MHz, respectively.
Already in September the company plans to add another board into the lineup, which will have the same clock-speeds with the GTX 260 model, but with 216 SPs, 72 TUs, 30 RBEs and 896MB of GDDR3 memory connected using 448-bit interface.

Explain to me just how "this year" belongs to ATI?
First off, the year ain't over yet! There's still September, October, November and December left to go. Now, I realize you live in the land of make-believe, but even you must have heard of the concept of months and how many there are in a year.
Secondly up until this July and August, Nvidia was the undisputed king of the benchmarks... and when ATI finally managed to take that crown for itself, it needed TWO gpus on one card to manage to beat a single GTX 280 single-GPU card. In other words, ATI GPUs still suck, but if you pair two of them together they can just manage to out-do one of nVidias.
Now look sad and say "Duh'oh!"
... At about half the price. If you want ultimate performance, then for now shove two GTX280's together.
On the other hand, if you don't want to take out another mortgage, the 4850s and 4870s are untouchable for the price.
(And this is coming from an Nvidia fan...)
The refreshed GTX260 will likely remove all doubt that it beats the 4870, leaving only the 4870-X2 as a contender, and that product it too new to make a serious judgment on yet, let's see mature drivers in a few weeks. I've got a 4850 in my other PC and it is very nice, but the drivers are still a little meh.

Uh... no. There's a concept you may want to research for yourself: It's called a "market-driven economy". That means that if you have a better product and you want to charge more for it, you can. And should. And probably will. The fact is that Nvidia, on the whole, has the better product. The marketplace, on the whole, knows this. Some people are willing to pay more for the better product, other people will compromise and buy something that isn't as good because it sells for less. If you're PO'd becasue Nvidia cards cost more, tough cheese: You want the better product? It's more expensive than the inferior product.
If you want to believe nvidia's cards are unjustly overpriced, then don't buy one! Bitching about it will get you exactly squat. Welcome to the wonderful world of capitalism. Caveat emptor.

I've never owned a 790i so I can't really comment on that, but as far as I know the 790i Ultra mobos are really sweet boards.

The problems were with the reference boards, so nvidia were to blame, I should know I had four 680i boards, the last one is now in my sons PC, i ditched it for a x38 board.
