A computer worm that ferrets out passwords managed to stow away on laptops aboard the International Space Station, NASA has confirmed. It is not the first time a NASA computer has become infected. SpaceReg.com identified the infection as W32.TGammima.AG, a worm that spreads by copying itself to removable media devices. Once in place, it steals passwords to various online games, according to anti-virus software provider Symantec, which first spotted the worm 12 months ago."This is not the first time we have had a worm or a virus," a NASA spokesman told Wired News. "It's not a frequent occurrence, but this isn't the first time."

If NASA used MAC's this would NOT happen. I can almost guarantee that the shuttle is totally powered by XP on the left side and VISTA on the right side.

Now if it was powered by Ubuntu,Red Hat, Suse, Knoppix, Slax, etc.... this probably would not happen, but their displays would not, I repeat NOT be as "Sexy" as if OSX was running it

However, if they used Linux, while they would not have been infected with that Windows virus, they would have to recompile their kernel. But since they are using a NASA-specific distro, they need to change their repositories and do an insmod of the "go4damoon" module for the specific kernel version and hardware architecture. Then re-check dependencies and mount the iso in loopback...

Actaully the shuttle is powered by custom written assembly code running on 8086 processors

Exactly, they can't manage a simple conversion that Google pops out in less than a second, I can't see the "geniuses" at NASA trying to compile a kernel, I bet they all still use IE as their default browser too

Most of their custom systems run linux, or are writen in java
