leave feedback on that website...or just hit ALT + H on the windows live messenger and then click send feedback

All i need now is Apatch or Messpatch and this release is perfect.
#3.1 Michael1406 on 18 Sep 2008 - 08:48
+1...except I won't even try it until I can patch it to get rid of the garbage. Do they still have winks in WLM versions? It's been so long since I've seen one I honestly don't know if it's just the patch settings I use or if MS ditched them.
#4 LyKwId on 17 Sep 2008 - 15:11
I like the little pop up box when you hover over a contact.

Just need apatch and this will be good to go
#5 Asskicker on 17 Sep 2008 - 15:25
Yup, APatch is what I need.
Really like the new version!

Compatibility mode?
#6.2 NXTwoThou on 17 Sep 2008 - 16:27
Nope, tried that.

Since its not an MSI, I couldn't use the Orca trick to change its requirements.

Extracting the _all.exe just gives me the .msi for movie maker, but the only live program I use is Messenger.

See the "Update:" at the end of the post.

Or use this setup file that I've tweaked according to the blog's instructions. (it has no OS check)

But unfortunately gives a *** TBD: Installer package was not signed *** error message and won't continue. Just in case the file was corrupted, I downloaded a fresh copy and followed the instructions and got an identical error message while trying to run.

I'm trying to find out where I can turn off the signed check(I assume its in Local Security Policy somewhere)

135MB, lol.

What's so funny? The 135mb download contains WL Mail, WL Toolbar, WL Photo Gallery, WL Movie Maker, WL Writer, WL Family Safety, WL Messenger and Microsoft Office Outlook Connector.

I make that nearly 17mb per application if you divide it up equally. So I ask again, what's so funny?

You're right, I thought it was just Windows Live Messenger before I downloaded and installed. My apologies.

Movie Maker now. What's next, Windows Live Notepad? They are turning all the built in Windows apps into adware. I know Microsoft has fallen on hard times and really needs the money but come on, I already paid for the OS. Do I have to stare at advertisements to use it now?
#11.1 xiphi on 17 Sep 2008 - 16:57
Adware? You make MS sound like it's on the brink of bankruptcy. These services are for free and as far as I know the only one that has any ads is Messenger.

I think you should check them out before you make dubious claims.

I don't agree with moving Windows Movie Maker over to the Windows Live 'platform'. It seems a little out of place.

It *used* to. After the beta was over I think they got rid of them.

I personally love the new interface. Much smoother. The chat window is a welcome change, a lot less crap and more focus on whats important... the conversation.
#13.1 +TCLN Ryster on 17 Sep 2008 - 17:35
I find the opposite. Most people read from left to right. If it was focussing on the conversation, they wouldn't have moved the avatars to the left. I want to read the conversation first, not look at humerous pictures of dancing squirrels, etc.
#13.2 FusionOpz on 18 Sep 2008 - 03:21
close the avatar panel then.
#14 +TCLN Ryster on 17 Sep 2008 - 17:34
One thing I noticed with this new version of Messenger is that the Mail button now launches your default browser, rather than being hard coded to use IE. A pity then that it just sends you to http://www.msn.com at the moment rather than your hotmail
(1 reply) #15 thealexweb on 17 Sep 2008 - 17:49
Any idea when it will go stable.
#15.1 Slugsie on 18 Sep 2008 - 08:09
Yes, at 12:47pm on 26th September.

That's a silly question really, it's beta so you shouldn't expect production strength stability. Having said that MS betas tend to be fairly stable by the time they go 'public'. Besides, one reason for the public beta is to report bugs and crashes back to MS so they can be fixed.

messenger is good...and the sounds (except for chat message) all other messenger sounds are 'vista' themed..i.e., silent and subtle!

UI is good

Tis not bad...

Maybe the Mac team will finally get the new version of Messenger w/ webcam out now that WLM 9 is in beta with the new A/V stack.

AFAIK, Live Messenger doesn't come with Windows. Windows Messenger does, however.
#27 2Cold Scorpio on 18 Sep 2008 - 03:45
Anyone know how easy it is to revert back to the current Live apps (in my case, just WL Mail and Messenger). I want to try these new versions out, but not full-time (plus, Messenger Live Plus doesn't have a new version yet for the new Messenger, AFAIK). I'd be nice to be able to install Messenger 9 alongside 8.5; can you?

If its hard going back, I might just wait for the final versions...anyone know when that's supposed to be?

When I installed the beta it gave a list of things which could be installed, so I just unchecked everything but WLM. Should work the same for what you want.

Thanks guys, but I already have Wave 2 Messenger/Mail/Photo Gallery installed. Now when I run this installer, it just says "These programs will be updated: Mail Beta, Messenger Beta, Photo Gallery Beta" without the option to deselect them.

Hey anyone notice that the audio is really low when someone has logged onto wlm or when you are sending a nudge the audio is much louder when you receive a message. I don't know if it is only effecting me, however it seems very off.
