Apple iPhone, move over. At least, that's the hope of Google and Research in Motion as they ready the first serious competitors to the iPhone, in the "mobile 2.0" market that Apple invented.Later this month, the first Google Android OS-based phone, HTC's G1, will come on the market through the carrier T-Mobile. And in November, RIM's first BlackBerry that supports real Web pages is scheduled to debut. While there have been many pathetic iPhone imitations to date, these two devices look to be the real deal, with hardware, software, and OS capabilities able to compete with Apple's carefully constructed, elegant platform.

Unbelievable , who wrote this load of crap?! Steve Jobs?!
I wonder if Apple pays for these stories or if the media in general really just sucks up Apple like a whale does water...
In all respects the iPhone didn't pioneer anything new in the mobile space... If anything it is causing a degredation back to the days before keyboards were included on PDAs/Smartphones...
I'm not an English major so I don't like to say reading is fundamental in this manner, but it has to be said
I said the iPhone is causing degradation back to the time before keyboards... That means that the iPhone is influencing companies to walk down that road.
I used the iPhone and personally I didn't find it more user friendly, but I'm not your average user either. I'm more technically oriented so I don't have trouble making my way around Blackberry OS or Windows Mobile.
Multi-Touch was something that was inevitable. It wasn't invented by Apple they just got to market with a device first. It was something that would have made it our irrespective of if Apple had hit the market.
With that said... RIM and Nokia and HTC etc. are rolling out touch phones because they want the same chance at headlines that Apple gets. In a media market where they claim Apple invented the smartphone...
No, multi-touch wasn't invented by Apple, but email/web browsing wasn't invented by nokia/blackberry/palm/microsoft either. See how ridiculus that statement is?

Except we're not claiming (insert company name here) invented those things. And the apple-lovers are. See how ridiculous you are now?
(By the way, you misspelled ridiculous.)
You claimed that Apple didn't invent multi touch, therefore Apple's introduction of the technology in a mobile couldn't be considered significant in the mobile space.
Yet, when you look at the impact blackberry has made in the mobile space by introducing email to their phones, it is quite significant and blackberry didn't invent email.
So your statement that significance implies invention is false.

I hate these modern Buzzword 2.0 terms
What do you mean? Burgers
That said, the iPhone has set a certain benchmark, but other companies are catching up, and quickly too I might add. Already Nokia has fired the first salvo with an affordable touch phone that doesn't break your wallet, which is just a precursor to next N series, which will almost certainly be touched based as well. HTC, though a bit too expensive for my liking, have done a great job with TouchFlo 3D, especially with its media player and weather widgets, which I have yet to see anyone top it, especially the wiping part when it's raining! However, they really need to improve the battery life for it to become a worthy challenger but the soon to be released HTC Touch HD might be that device to entice users away from the iPhone, with a 3.8 inch touch screen and 5 Megapixel autofocus camera, albeit without a flash.
Samsung is still there as well though so far their products have generally been bland for me but to each his own. There is also of course Windows Mobile 7 but since that is still a long way away, it will be a while until we see all of them duke it out on a level playing field.
Scirwode
Based on?? Currently the iPhone is best of breed. Even without copy/paste.
