AUSTRIAN CPU cooler brand, Noctua, has given Core i7 upgraders an early Christmas gift of sorts. The company has announced it’ll be giving away LGA775-to-LGA1366 adapters so that any Noctua – and probably most CPU coolers on the market after 2005 – will be able to mount on Intel’s new flagship CPUs.

The name of the device is 'SecuFirm2' and, according to Noctua, makes installing the cooler on the CPU even easier than before. The whole thing is free, but you’ll have to provide a proof of purchase in the form of a scan, photo or screen cap of the invoice so the amicable chaps at Noctua can senden you die kühler.

Very nice on their part. I bought a Noctua cooler for my Q9550 earlier this month when I built my new system. Granted, I won't be upgrading to Nehalem, maybe Sandy Bridge, but we'll see how much of a performance improvement it offers. Anwyay, back on topic, this is a very good move. I guess it means the current cooler designs will work as long as you get the mounting hardware.

I waiting for Sandy Bridge as well. Well, most likely.

Sorry, but I'd rather have something that was actually designed for LGA 1366. The two sockets may look similar, but there are subtle differences in places you might not have noticed.

I'm sure since they build the coolers they know the differences and know it's safe.

The respect points alone may have earned Noctua my business when I build my i7 rig. Of course, they also happen to make some of the best air coolers on the market.

(That is also assuming I haven't decided to plunge into liquid cooling by then.)

My Noctua NH-U12P works very well, and I can agree with the reviews, this thing is pretty much silent. I have the original Cooler Master CM Stacker case, and besides my video card (1GB Radeon 4870, and when I turn up the fans), the damn hard drive cage fans are the loundest in my system. I'm tempted to replace both fans with 2 of the Noctua NF-P12 fans since they push a lot of air and are very quiet. They have great products.
