I was looking through the application store in iTunes and came across Midomi. It has been out for a while now and has gotten some great reviews, so I figured I would give it a try.

Basically, this program lets you hum, sing, type, or listen to audio. Based off of that recorded sample it will tell you the song. There have been many times when I have heard a song I really liked but had absolutely no idea what it was. With this application I am now easily able to “grab” a portion of a song and get the title.

I have hummed a few songs and it figured it out fairly fast. Some attempts at humming brought up multiple possible songs, but the one I hummed was definitely there. As for the grab feature, every song I have played on my computer here at work has been found and was correct.

This app may not have many uses, but it is definitely worth the download. It’s free, so why not try it out?

Cool thanks.

I've been using Shazam for a while now but that doesn't work on singing etc.

Midomi is okay, I prefer Shazam (atleast for when "Grabbing" sound for identification). Where i've had 3-4 songs not found on Midiomi, Shazam has found them for me, even the rarest of songs. Both are great free apps.

I tried Midomi about a year ago. It's not too bad. It doesn't have a good success rate with me when I'm testing it!

I wonder if the app sends back statistics about how often it's correct? If hit/miss statistics are sent back to improve the engine, eventually the data could be used to identify songs that are copyright on P2P networks, and paying users would be doing all the work to help improve the technology.

theres a few apps like this, shazam is what I use. but are there any that don't require internet? It would be nice if I could grab anytime, and the next time i'm on wifi I could send the short recording and get the song name.

I have the music recognition app on my SEK850i and have to say, it's detection rates are spot on.

1) I heard a remix of "Kleerup feat Robyn - With Every Heartbeat" in a film. Grabbed a short clip (with film speech over the top) and it got it.

2) Tested it with a 90's harstyle remix of an obscure 80's europop hit ("Ryan Paris - Dolce Vita - Scottie Dix Mix" - it got it.

3) I decided to put it through it's paces... One of the "Battlestar Galactica" score albums by Bear McCreary - every track may as well just be drumming, they all merge into one... It got it!

yeah if theres no lyrics in the music, it will still figure it out.

I use "Shazam" to do this.

Definitely one of my favourite apps on the appstore. I has come in handy once, and can't wait to use it again. I will compare these two apps and see which one I like better
