AMD and Alienware have joined forces to produce the first AMD CrossfireX Multi-GPU laptop. Alienware, famous for its extreme laptop and desktops has produced another first the M17 laptop. Not only does it have an Intel Quad-Core Mobile CPU it also includes a pair of Radeon Mobility HD 3870 GPU’s in CrossfireX.
The M17, loaded with all the capabilities of ATI CrossFireX multi-GPU technology, delivers outstanding performance at an extremely aggressive price point,” said Patrick Cooper, director of product planning, Alienware. “Paired with an award-winning chassis design, mobile gamers will be blown away by the realism that the scalable ATI graphics solution provides.”

“As a strong indicator of AMD visual computing leadership, Alienware has chosen AMD’s amazing graphics technology for their M17 notebook to provide gamers with truly exciting gameplay experiences,” said Rick Bergman, senior vice president and general manager, Graphics Products Group, AMD. “The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3800 series offers support for the latest Microsoft DirectX 10.1 games with incredible levels of performance.
The ATI Unified Video Decoder assumes all Blu-ray and HD decoding, leaving the CPU free to devote resources to interactive features such as picture-in-picture or advanced menu options.

But all of the latest technology comes at a price. Expect to pay around $2,499 for your laptop bragging rights...

I lol'd hard at your comment. Incase you've been trapped in a metal box the past year, yes, ATi does currently lead the GPU industry.

EDIT: LTD, why are you always the first one to criticize the truth with no backup and plain disbelief. You have demonstrated this behaviour in quite a few news articles so far... Or is it just that you are too Apple hardcore to believe that AMD did something right? I'm sorry but you've made alot of stupid comments in my book.

Give it a month. GPU manufacturer primacy is a dime-a-dozen these days.

And really, careful about how you use the word "truth" around here.

Of course, as to the rest of your comments, you're entitled to your opinion, same as everyone else.

You can tell how stupid someone is about computers if they buy an alienware.

Is this the one that they hyped up so much, saying there was nothing else like this on the market, yada yada? These new laptops bore the hell out of me. How about a little innovation?

Not Intel? Not interested.

"Not only does it have an Intel Quad-Core Mobile CPU..."

What? Ok, another ignorant fanboy. It has a whopping Intel Quad! You have got to be kidding me. You refuse to even look at a product that has anything other than intel/Nvidia, just because you hate AMD. And also, if you're not interested in anything but Intel, the good luck on being stuck with a Intel graphics controller because technically, Nvidia isn't an Intel company.

Man you kicked his ass ! Good one dude. And to Raa : AMD recently received massive funding by two UAE firms. And since the R&D and manufacturing teams are now independent , we can now expect truly awesome products and aggressive pricing between AMD/ATI , Intel and Nvidia. Good news for all of us , except you maybe and other mindless Apple/Intel bootlickers.

Does anyone know what material the chassis and lid are made up from? I'm thinking of replacing my Dell XPS M1710 and it uses magnisium alloy for the chassis and top part of the lid.

Cooling the M17 must be tough though, I wonder how they did it! - I have trouble keep my 7950GTX less than 90 degrees for games (yes fluff bunnies have been ejected and the ambient temperature is fine).

I'd say that the laptop is going to be pretty thick given that it can take up to 2 hard disks etc. etc. Its less a laptop and more a portable desktop/workstation, so don't expect long battery life from it.

Then again, it is a pretty damn ugly laptop if you ask me.

I agree

The front area where the speakers and CD drive area scream out "HI! I'M MADE IN CHINA!"

I was thinking of getting the Macbook (different type of lappy i know) so I like to have great build quality and finishing.

I think I'll keep waiting...
