After getting out of a deal with its rival Google for sharing ad space, Yahoo's CEO Jerry Yang wanted to go back to the bargaining table with Microsoft and renegotiate a deal that was turned down by Yahoo a few months back.

This time, the tables have turned and Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer has stated that it would not be interested in going back to the table causing Yahoo's share price to drop over 15% in today's trading. Microsoft has stated that it is not going to look back to the past and will continue forward with its own strategy.

Well, they burned themselves by not accepting Microsoft's bid. Now, to be asking to be bought is too late.

Didn't see that coming. Microsoft's smart move would be to acquire yahoo before Google does.

If both companies don't want Yahoo, maybe a third party might step in to buy Yahoo, or else it will go bankrupt.

Maybe they're both hoping that will happen. What's better than spending money on a failing giant? Waiting for it to fail and not having to clean up. This way MS and Google don't spend a cent and get what they want in the long run anyway!

I saw this coming a mile away, Yahoo! got what was coming to them. They spat in MS's face and what did they expect MS to do in return? welcome them with open arms? no, they spat back in their faces, business is war and Yahoo! just learnt the hard way, serves them right.

The smart move would be to wait until Yahoo's stock near bottoms out, then use a hostile takeover bid to take the company.

Yahoo had their chance to save the company. Now it is just a matter of time before someone gets them at pennies on the dollar. Jerry Young has ruined any possibility that shareholders will ever get equitable value for their stock.

Wow, how desperate do they seem now...

I had Yahoo on as my homepage for about 8 years. I then moved to Google and haven't looked back since. I thought Yahoo were great but in recent years they haven't done anything to impress me. Look how far Google has come in recent years.

Geesh! Are you brain washed! Google surely hasn't done anything impressive, except maybe, buy everything in site and mainly make a mess of that themselves. Their gmail sure sucks way worse than Yahoo's anyday.

There are only 3 persons to blame in this 1- The stock holder 2- Jerry Yang and 3- Carl Ichann. If its anyones fault the first time around it was Jerry Yang being a greedy ******. After that whole debacle, Carl Ichann tried to get the deal to go through but that failed and the biggest idiot of them all is the stock holder.

The problem here was that Yang and Ichann were fighting and Ichann wanted the deal to go through but with all that infighting those idiot shareholders who voted to keep Yang as CEO caused this mess and now they are only the ones to blame. They had the opportunity to get rid of Yang he's a garbage leader and lives in the past when Yahoo was king and trust me, Yahoo is a joke and maybe has a lead over Google in some asian markets and that's it. But in order to get Yang out the shareholders had the choice of punting him and they didn't.

It is called "just desserts" look it up.

BTW, I know that spelling doesn't count on the intarweb (according to the ignorant majority's behavior) but for god's sake - how do you (2 posters) get "Jerry Young" from "Jerry Yang?" It's not like it's a difficult name, in fact it is spelled out for you right there in EVERY SINGLE FREAKING ARTICLE discussing Yahoo.

What's embarrassing is unabashed ignorance.

Nice one Microsoft.

Jerry Yang needs to be a man and step down.

Didn't see this coming to be honest, because I didn't expect Google to pull out of their deal. However, after Google stepped out this was expected, because Yahoo pretty much had nowhere to go.
