Microsoft releases two new server packages

Windows Essential Business Server 2008 and Windows Small Business Server 2008 have just been officially added to the Microsoft Operating System family. Customers can get a copy of the latest server editions, which will be available in both Standard Edition, and Premium Edition. Both premium editions of the servers come with Windows Server 2008 Standard and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard for Small Business, where the standard versions do not.

Windows Small Business Server is targeted at the smaller businesses with 5-75 users while Windows Essential Business Server is for businesses with 25-300 users, for mid-sized businesses. Microsoft released these versions to answer to smaller businesses that didn't wish to pay the price tag of Windows Server 2008, which is focused for handling more users, and heavier traffic.

These editions are added to the already successful Windows Server 2008 that released on February 27 of this year in multiple versions.

Windows Small Business Server 2008 Standard Edition software $1,089 (U.S.)
Windows Small Business Server 2008 Premium Edition software $1,899 (U.S.)
Windows Essential Business Server 2008 Standard Edition software $5,472 (U.S.)
Windows Essential Business Server 2008 Premium Edition software $7,163 (U.S.)

Now there are standard and premium versions of SBS 2008?! What is the difference? I hate it when Microsoft does crap like that. As if there weren't already enough different flavors of 2008 server. I understand the need for SBS 2008, but not 2 different versions.

And dont forget the CALs cost more so if you want a CAL for Server, Exchange and SQL then bonus..... if you just want SBS for a domain / file server then

SBS 2003 has also a Standard and Premium edition. Premium comes with SQL 2005 and ISA Server 2007(?)

We got our action pack CD's today for the new 2k8 releases

Or you could just learn how to use Linux as a server and stop whining.
