Microsoft has launched their first online store - Microsoft Store. Users can now buy directly from the store, straight from the source! The Microsoft Store offers the largest selection of Microsoft software, devices and hardware in one place

Currently, the store has the following categories:

- Office Suites for Windows and Mac

3) Entertainment
- PC Games, Xbox 360 Games

4) Hardware
- Microsoft Mice, Keyboards, Webcams

5) Home + Reference
- Windows Live OneCare, Microsoft Works

6) Design + Developer
- Visual Studio, Expression Suites

7) Business
- Windows Server 2008

Looks like all the good stuff (games) is not available in the UK store. I can just see Windows, Office and Home+Money and Developer sections.

just what we've been missing, somewhere where we can pay around 15% more for software...

Hey, it worked for Apple!

There are some basic and obvious usability problems though.

Windows Vista Ultimate with…
Office Home and Student 2007…
Office 2008 for Mac Home and…
Office 2008 for Mac Special…

And as usual New Zealanders get the royal screw job by Microsoft.

"more countries will be added throughout the year."

Reading is SUCH a chore, isn't it?

No, because it never bloody happens. Using your brain is a bit of a chore? you know, actually pulling your head out of your pathetic behind and realising that this will be like all the other Microsoft 'ideas' - f*ck the rest of the world, only the US matters.

I don't know what exactly they do and don't do.
But as it is a United States based company I can't see being that ****ed that they don't add your resident country.

It's about time!

Hmmm....

Windows Vista Home Premium @ Amazon: £141.61
Windows Vista Home Premium @ Microsoft: £169.99

And I'd pay an extra £28 because....? And I'm pretty sure it can be purchased at an even better price than Amazon's. That was just the first place I looked.

Must try harder

Microsoft or any other brand won't open a store to compete with their partners in prices. It is natural that they sell the products for the retail price with no discount.

I accept that, but the question then becomes, why bother opening the store? The quality is going to be the same wherever you purchase it from, so the factor that most customers have to go on is price. Who, in their right minds, and especially in the current economic climate, wants to pay more for a product?

#15.1 paulhaskew on 14 Nov 2008 - 23:18
#15.2 +vlsi0n on 16 Nov 2008 - 07:05
They should sell Hotmail Plus, they sell the Live! services there.
#16 KevinRGood on 14 Nov 2008 - 19:11
Microsoft is trying to cut the middle man. Probably trying to cut the prices on their software.
(1 reply) #17 noPCtoday on 14 Nov 2008 - 20:24
Wait, didn't they have a marketplace? isn't it the same thing as this? correct me if i'm wrong.
#17.1 Chaks on 14 Nov 2008 - 22:33
Marketplace is open for anybody who likes to sell their software, but 'Microsoft Store' is explicitly run by Microsoft for products *only* from Microsoft
(1 reply) #18 +Frazell Thomas on 15 Nov 2008 - 00:50
Err... Microsoft has had Microsoft store since at LEAST 2000....

This version looks nice though...

And offers more than the previous versions offered.

#19 +vlsi0n on 16 Nov 2008 - 07:07
