Once again, anything Apple can make, the enterprising Dev Team can break: the brand-new firmware 2.2 has been jailbroken.

QuickPwn should take care of everything, unless you're one of those unfortunate owners of the second-generation iPod touch, in which case you're out of luck at the moment. But everything else seems to be running fine—anybody here broken the new firmware yet? Let us know in the comments.

Now Neowin just needs a warez release page.
Seriously, should Neowin really be promoting news like this?

When they promote beta leaks, what's the difference?

News is news, after all

Because technically it is homebrew. You don't sue a knives manufacturer because their products can be used to kill.

Similar situation here, the makers, or neowin in this article, make no mention of piracy. And while piracy is against the law, voiding Apples policy and losing your guarantee is not against the law.

Is there anything available except for hacking just out of principle that suggests one should try it out?

Except for being on a locked platform, is there anything I am missing software wise?

Note: This is a a serious question, not intended to launch a flame fight.

The only thing I can think of is running homebrew softwares that adds certain function like copy&paste and those stuff.

I think Apple should just open the platform a little more than they have.

I'm not sure any of it is worth Apple sending an update to your phone disabling its network access because you jailbroke it. If you wanted an "open platform" phone, should have gotten a smartphone or something. Now, the iPod Touch is a little different since you don't risk losing phone access for jailbreaking it.

Since when has Apple disabled network access for jailbroken phones?

I haven't heard of anything yet. But would it really surprise you if they did?
