Update: Our contest is now live, click here to enter!

At a time when less is in reach for most, HP and Microsoft want to help spread the magic through the HP Magic Giveaway, a program that enables 50 top blogs to run their own contests to give away 50 prize packages whose value exceeds $6000. Microsoft and HP have decided, Neowin is one of the top blogs, and we will be participating in this giant giveaway.

The prize packages include: The package also includes a HP 564 Photo Value Pak, Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student Edition, Corel VideoStudio X2 and Kung Fu Panda (DVD & Blu-ray). All the machines will have either Vista Ultimate or Home Premium preinstalled.

Our competition will begin shortly once we finalise the finer details of the competition. You will have 50 chances across 50 sites to win the package and we hope to split the package into individual prizes to enable up to 10 people to win a fantastic prize on Neowin. This is a global competition so if you are in the UK, US, Kazakhstan, Australia or China it doesn't matter, feel free to enter once the competition begins.

Neowin would like to thank Microsoft, HP and Buzz Corps for this excellent opportunity at Christmas. Stay tuned for the exact details of our competition.

why would it be US only? HP are Germany-based aren't they?

They are global but due to shipping restrictions and taxes etc alot of companies restrict large prizes to US only and stuff.

I doubt that it is truly global due to export laws. For example, if someone in North Korea or Iran were to win the prize, they'd be SOL.

No, HP is based in California. Though it has offices around the world, it's still a US company. Some sites just don't like to pay the shipping cost, export/import taxes, VAT taxes, etc. that are required for various other countries. No to mention the fact that there are some places that simply cannot be shipped to.

Should be an interesting competition

Can't wait to see what it is
#2.1 gigapixels on 25 Nov 2008 - 08:19
Doesn't it suck that you're no longer eligible for these things anymore? That's the one downside to being on staff.

w00t and to think it was about a year ago the last time neowin was giving away something from HP and Microsoft. lol.
#9 Rudy on 25 Nov 2008 - 14:02
i wonder if entry is going to be simple like the neowin contest or as complicated as the last HP/Neowin contest
#10 Mr. Dee on 25 Nov 2008 - 14:19
I notice some sites didn't get added again (Arstechnica) - their contest was too difficult and another Windows Community site because the owner took ages to announce a winner and had contestants paranoid thinking he/she had swipe the prize. Will definitely be entering this time around.

C'mon guys i have to get something atleast this time!

I hope the selection isnt someone picking a random number and hope that multiple posts don't count!
#24.1 creamhackered on 26 Nov 2008 - 08:48
haha no it won't be like that this time don't worry
#25 ThaCrip on 26 Nov 2008 - 08:29
so it's NOT a drawing to see who wins on neowin? ... or is it some crap where you have to make some fancy website etc etc to get it? ... cause if it's the later i dont even care.. i wish it would be , you fill out a form for a chance to win and they draw at random and whoever gets it gets it.

plus to help weed out the multiple account makers... they should have a rule to where you gotta be a member of Neowin for atleast 6months or something to be eligible or something like that
#26 smctainsh on 26 Nov 2008 - 08:31
This sounds awesome! Thanks to HP, Microsoft and Buzz Corps for providing us with this awesome opportunity!

#27 Vezineth on 26 Nov 2008 - 11:29
I really do want to win the the prize. Multi-Touch computer will have multi-touch Win 7 in 2009.
#28 SimNet on 26 Nov 2008 - 17:21
I agree with TheCrip

It should be a form or something you fill out, mabye answer a few q's You can get great feedback this way as well...and then putting it into a random draw and then selecting 10 people for each prize or whatever that way it's like a lottery and nice and random and everyone has an EQUAL chance to win.

For people who are asying they shlud get atleast 6 months.. u have a point but this is a way to attract users too and maybe some of them will stay since neowin is great!
#29 RebelSean on 26 Nov 2008 - 19:21
Great news guys, I could really use a new PC to prepare for Windows 7 . Thanks for letting us be apart of the competition Neowin, makes me feel special. I just hope this time it's harder to win the prize instead of picking random numbers out of 2k applicants :p.
#30 StealMySoda on 26 Nov 2008 - 19:21
Can't wait to get entered. Who doesn't like free stuff. Even if 99% of us never win
