Earlier this week Microsoft updated their Hotmail service to the new Windows Live Wave 3. Though Home and Spaces remained the same. Yesterday however, those were also updated with new features and gadgets.

The New Live Wave 3 which seems to have been rolled out feaures Dynamic themes, updated Weather forecasts, and the ability to add pictures. The page itself also integrates a number of services. All your messenger contact info is sent to Windows Live Home, additionally, Office Workspaces has also been integrated to show all files and folders added.

Now let's talk about SkyDrive. SkyDrive got a major boost. Last week you were able to store up to 5GB, now it has been boosted to 25GB. Folders have also been neatly organized, however, the ability to view friends SkyDrive's seems to have been removed.

Downloads have also been included. These Downloads are the new Live Wave 3 Programs which include WLM 9.0, WLMD (Windows Live Mail Desktop), WLMM (Windows Live Movie Maker), WLW (Windows Live Writer) etc, however they are ALL BETA and will not be released until Feb, 09. Finally, Spaces. Spaces seems to be out of service at the moment unfortunately, this has been confirmed by a number of people.

"Downloads have also been included" But then it says that they will remain in Beta til Feb, whats going on, this article contradicts itself.

I would also say that the name of the mail client is actually Windows Live Mail. Note the word Desktop not being there, it was dropped before the current release. The Beta continues this name as well. Also, these Beta apps were released a month or two ago, long before this formal roll-out of the "Wave 3" release.

When I stated "Downloads" I did not mean the final product. A download is a download, despite its development stage. MS Included a 'Downloads' area where you can easily download their latest software, which currently is BETA.

You are correct in saying that Desktop was dropped from Windows Live Mail, but I had to use it to distinguish between the online version and the offline one.

DOWNLOADS HAVE BEEN UPDATED?!
Can anyone confirm this with new build numbers? I swear they said they wern't coming out until 14th..

Downloads have not been updated, they are now included. Instead of searching the web, it's now directly availablefrom your Windows Live Home page.

I must say, the revamp is very welcome indeed.

Agreed. I'm loving how consistent they're finally making all these sites.

Yes, it feels very consistent. I am very pleased with the direction Microsoft is moving in, both with Windows 7 and the Live services.

Yeah, I was quite worried about the direction of the services in Wave 2 - so inconsistent, alot of things didn't work together properly...but now it looks and feels good.

UI consistency aside, all of these and future services are interconnected as well, to some degree. Which is very nice also.

Windows Live Messenger is at the same Beta build number: 14.0.5027.908.

Righto, thanks for that - so I suppose it hasnt actually been updated yet. I'm excited about the new releases of the desktop clients in a weeks time.

I think that this article needs correction about the beta products if no update's actually been made

Looks nice, but WHY CAN'T I GET RID OF THE BLANK AREA above hotmail?? Is that where an ad is suppose to go, but I probably have blocked?

You got it in one. The reason it's blank is your fault

They are moving the ad to the right side in the January update to Hotmail, so that 'blank area' will be gone

The new Hotmail and People UIs will look fantastic when they are released in January and the new themes should be added to these services too
#5.3 +chorpeac on 05 Dec 2008 - 15:24
Ok Cool, well at least then it should all look the same. Because when you go from Skydrive to mail it looks totally different.. Thanks.

You're probably running adblock pro...you can remove it if you subscribe to hotmail plus
#6.1 Mokusei on 03 Dec 2008 - 22:21
lol, yeah.. sure

Anyway we can use greasemonkey to remove that empty block? It's pretty big for my 12" widescreen laptop.

Pity about the 50mb file size limit in skydrive...
#9.1 Beastage on 04 Dec 2008 - 00:27
Yea in theory, but you can winrar to split archive into 49MB files
#9.2 cJr. on 04 Dec 2008 - 01:40
I thought the 50MB limit was just for photos and images? This is a very poorly written article with a lot of errors in both information and grammar. Try it out for yourself to see the size of the files you can upload
#9.3 ricknl on 04 Dec 2008 - 16:54
Actually I keep a copy of Outlook backup there, and it is around 350 MB. So the file size limit is not correct.
#10 cJr. on 04 Dec 2008 - 01:44
I cannot believe how poorly written this article is!

It doesn't flow at all and a lot of the information contained in it is wrong! Visit http://www.liveside.net and read some of the recent blogs here to prove that is wrong! You can visit other people's SkyDrive's by going to their Windows Live Profile and clicking on SkyDrive under their profile picture (one of the links there). Please don't assume things in articles when they are not true!

Besides the wrong information, the grammar and vocabulary is dire! I'm disappointed this made the front page and one of the actual News Staff haven't posted a proper article about the new Windows Live Wave 3 updates! (or have they somewhere else?)

I wrote this in a hurry after pulling an all nighter. I know that some of it is wrong and I did not write it from any sources. I wrote it from what I saw. Sorry for the confusion and mis-information. English is my third language after Serbo-Croatian and German.

OK well sorry if I wounded harsh I didn't mean to.

You can't be blamed for the grammar or that fact it doesn't flow very well, and it still does make sense

The only thing I'm annoyed about is where you stated that it appears they have taken out the option to view others' SkyDrive's and a couple of other wrong points.

Sorry though
#11.2 Titoist on 04 Dec 2008 - 04:17
No problem, like I said, I was in a hurry. Usually my articles are more precise with sources. Concerning SkyDrive, I liked it when I didn't have to find someones profile. It was just there beside my folders. I prefer quick access instead of taking more time to find something.

i am glad to see my office work space on my live home page, I felt it loaded a bit faster, the space on skydrive increased to 25 gb that's nice, my initial reaction it looks good, The UI looks a lot better than before. Over all I am impressed with the new features of Windows Live, and so far for my kind of useage I am very happy and satisfied with Windows Live services.
