Today, Microsoft released its first wave of invitations for the Windows 7 beta test. The invitations were only sent to a small, select group of 'technical beta' testers. In the email sent to invited testers, Microsoft states that the beta is not available for download right away. A reliable Russian website, Wzor, has claimed that the beta Microsoft will upload is build 7000.0.081212-1400, built December 12th. They also claim the build will be made available to testers within the next 48 hours.
In the email, Microsoft also mentioned their website where it has placed a wealth of information about Windows 7 and mentions the beta. This will likely be updated in the future. It should also be noted that Windows Server 2008 R2, included in this beta test, has a portal too. According to Microsoft's roadmap, this server-orientated Windows will have a longer release, scheduled to be released in 2010.
Neowin will provide updates on this beta when the information becomes available.

Length != Quality.

I've now been sacked/fired as news staff so this is my last article.
Have a good Christmas everyone.
Well, I actually use the "Send Feedback" button when I do beta testing, but actually they didn't send me the invitation.
Sad, I know...
Also, Beta-testing a Windows beta requires you to "actually do testing" but also requires you to "ensure you're using the latest version so you won't be sending feedback of stuff already fixed".
LOL, me too.
Beta-testing = updating frequently.
Why? There were lots of Windows Vista betas...
I suppose you know that Microsoft is not Apple, they don't need to lock their products to ensure they work. Microsoft is known for always delivering at least one beta/rc to the general public in each Windows release.

Churning out the betas? If you mean for windows, there is only one beta out right now and thats Vista SP2/2008 SP2... Windows 7 beta hasn't even started yet, or even a beta released yet, just alpha builds

Or rather, Alphas, LOL.
I'm impressed with the overall stability and usability of these Alphas. People have been reporting good things.
I didn't get a invite yet but we'll see.
Chris
Seems like everyone has one
Not true...28 here and I have been doing betas since win95
Though the newsgroups aren't showing up yet sigh. Hope they go live soon as well. I miss all the old folks from XP and Vista betas.
Me too!
Hehehe hey 0sm3l.... congrats buddy!
My PC specs:
CPU: Pentium III 800Mhz
RAM: 512
Video: S3 Trio64 (1Mb video memory)
It seems that Windows 7 is running a bit faster than XP does...
Well, already did for Vista SP2....

wrong post
I would not have said what I said unless I had doubled checked it with the team itself. Only registered members of press events got invites.
lol, i read what i wrote, sound like I only meant simply a warez site, not that it was simple page:p ok, still, i was referring to the nature of the site.
BTW the "wzor.net is a warez site, so don't trust it" argument is an ad hominem fallacy. Being a warez site doesn't imply that all they say is false.
Can someone please PM an invite if you can?
Would love to test and report bugs on Windows 7.
Thanks.
