Several Microsoft watchers have speculated that Microsoft may release the Windows 7 beta to Microsoft Action Pack subscribers on or before the 5th January.Microsoft posted a note to its partner site regarding the latest Microsoft Action Pack Subscription quarterly update kit. In the update Windows 7 is included as "download only". The packs content is due to start shipping on "January 5, 2009, depending on region, and continues with the first month of each subsequent quarter (January, April, July, and October). Allow 15 to 30 business days to receive your kit."
Despite the rumours we still believe that little will occur over the holiday season and Microsoft will make Windows 7 beta 1 available at Steve Ballmer's CES keynote on January 7th.
Microsoft recently sent beta invites to potential testers and Microsoft employee Scott Wylie revealed build 7004 in a blog posting last week. According to sources, Microsoft has finished the Beta 1 bits and they have been signed off as build 7000. Build 7001 and 7002 have been reserved (skipped) and 7003 onwards marks the new RC branch.
Ballmer is widely expected to announce the beta to a packed hall full off CES attendees on January 7th 2009.

Still, it shows that Microsoft are well on track to an ontime release. Hopefully.
It's funny people keep saying Vista. Ever thought about the drivers that just weren't ready or buggy. That is the fault of the hardware manufacturers. Not that Vista didn't have any bug
That's no excuse.
To the average user that means absolutely nothing.

So Microsoft is supsose to write 3rd party drivers now huh? Still isn't MS's fault if your drivers suck... Thats like when people buy massively loaded up with junkware dell PC's then scream WINDOWS SUCKS ITS SO SLOW!

Vista not working the way it should, OS X not working the way it should, whichever, might not be the fault of Microsoft or Apple, but it is certainly their responsibility. It's the OS manufacturer's responsibility to ensure their partners are ready.
If the end-user, Joe Average (most users out there) is going to blame you, the OS manufacturer, then it becomes your responsibility. It makes no difference where the blame should be placed technically. The customer has a reasonable expectation of product fitness and functionality. If for whatever reasons those expectations are not met, it isn't your suppliers' responsibility, it isn't your partners' responsibility, it's YOUR responsibility. This kind of responsibility might be difficult to assume, because there are certain issues that seem beyond the OS manufacturer's control, but it holds them to a higher standard of accountability so the *next* iteration of that OS will ensure that those previous, supposedly unavoidable or "understandable" problems, will magically be minimized.

If only MS would ensure that OEM's would not load their OS with bloated buggy crapware.
I sat down at a family friends new Dell comp with Vista Premium on it and Roxio errors at start everytime and the version of Roxio is so basic I can't find an update. I found a freeware app to replace it with for disc burning.
Now... if OEM's wanted to put all this crapware on a CD and mark certain apps as a recommended install to appease the crapware makers... PLEASE DO! Just stop loading the **** by default.
You say MS should make sure it's partners are ready? Like what? Hold their hands for months till they fianlly have good working drivers.
As far as it goes, MS sees that nVidia or ATi or Creative have working drivers, and they do work, though if they're crappy performance wise and or buggy that's out of MS's hands and fully in the hardware makers area.
To that extent MS DID make sure partners were ready and they did have drivers, the fact they performed crappy and so on is out of MS's hands.
Still ... Very excited to get mine at the office. I have a Dual-core XP machine with 4GB that is just screaming for a dual-boot install. I have been running the leaked 6956 build with VERY few problems at home.
it's not build 7000 but 7013:

Actually it *IS* on connect, just not for beta testers, there is a TAP program which gets builds a lot sooner then beta testers...

FAKE
ITS REAL!
Wait a little longer?
TAP program is a VERY VERY select few people that work in the ISV / IHV sectors.... they always get it first because they make hardware or software that is widely used
I was in the TAP programme for vista, and didn't seem to get builds any earlier except on one or two occasions
I think as Windows 7 is so close a release to Windows Vista, then some of us (Vista users) should get a special discount.
Windows 7 sound good, Windows Vista sounds horrid.
If M$ charge £40 for an upgrade, then I will probably purchase a disk.
Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha .... cough cough.
Sorry.
Bwahahahahahahaahah
Sorry.

You be looking in the £200 area at least for a good version. Thats just upgrade mind.
Face it, those of us who have been REALLY playing with it are digging it and want the real thing (whatever that is) as soon as possible

It don't matter how much you are "digging it" there will be hundreds flock here to cry about 7 just like they did Vista... hate to say it but you wait and see..
"I'm going back to Vista.. I mean I'm going back to XP.. forget it I'm going to buy a Mac!"
"The Microsoft Windows® Media Center beta team would like to extend an invitation to you to participate in the Microsoft Windows 7 beta program planned for early 2009 as a Windows Media Center beta tester. Accepting this invitation will allow you to access pre-release versions of the next version of Windows for the purpose of evaluating and providing feedback on Windows 7 and Windows Media Center. We highly value your feedback and know we can count on you to help us build a great new version of Windows!"
And right behind that: stepawayfromthecomputerandgooutside.com LOL...
