Two executives leave as Dell restructures

Dell's President of Global Operations, Mike Cannon, and Chief of Marketing, Mark Jarvis, are leaving the company less than two years after being brought on by Dell CEO Michael Dell, who returned to the helm of the computer maker in 2006. Dell, once the top global PC maker, has fallen behind competitor HP, holding only 13.6% of the global market, contrasting with HP's 18.4% share. Consequently, to adapt to lowered demand, the company is restructuring itself in an attempt to cut costs; whereas Dell's sales are currently managed by three regional headquarters around the world, the new company structure hopes to centralize these structures.

Dell has already cut 8000 jobs this year, and analysts predict at least one more round of layoffs in 2009. "It's a big shake-up," said Tim Ghriskey, chief investment officer for Solaris Asset Management. "Will it succeed over the long term? Who knows? But I think a shake-up is positive."

raising prices won't do it for them and Steve Jobs is the only executive I know at Apple who works for $1 salary, so that still wouldn't really help them.

Looks like i left Dell at just the right time, with all these cuts !!

Eh if Dell made good computers that people would willingly buy, maybe they wouldn't be in this situation. As far as I know, only schools and the Government buy Dells.

Another junk-box maker in trouble.

What would I do?

I'd shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders

I guess eating his words isn't much fun for Michael.

Apple is now worth three times as much as Dell.

How does it feel, Michael, to know that in the period of time that includes the DotCom crash, you sat on your posterior doing nothing while the object of your derision rode the wave of each significant industry trend, and could now buy your company and shut it down just for the LOLz?

^ May I ask, why do you feel the need to bring Apple into everything that's posted on this site?

I have absolutely no problem with slandering Dell. Michael Dell has a special place in the hearts of the Apple Faithful.h

As someone with absolutely no Apple loyalty what so ever, I can agree wholeheartedly with LTD and distaste for Dell.

I agree as well.

Only great thing I can say about Dell for sure though, is their monitors rock.

I say let Dell crash and burn along with the cheapo Power supplies and faulty motherboard capacitors.....

I blame Bush. Don't know why (perhaps because of the Iraq War), just do.

I, for one, welcome our new Chinese overloards.

Eh Dell only makes good monitors, but even if Dell collapses completely, only the government will miss them. Dells are worth less than the plastic they're made with.
