Matthäus Krzykowski & Daniel Hartmann have successfully ported Google's mobile operating system, Android, to a desktop operating system. The Android's Linux core has helped them to achieve this. The work started when a Google developer, Dima Zavin claimed at the Android Porting Google Group that he ported Android to an Asus EeePC 701. As Zavin had compiled against an Intel CPU, it turned out to be pretty simple for Matthäus and Daniel to port Android to an Asus EEEPC 1000H.

They also claim that, though Android is a mobile OS (for now), Google intends to expand it to be a sort of universal operating system that will span set-top boxes for televisions, mp3 players and other communication and media devices and services.
