Matthäus Krzykowski & Daniel Hartmann have successfully ported Google's mobile operating system, Android, to a desktop operating system. The Android's Linux core has helped them to achieve this.

The work started when a Google developer, Dima Zavin claimed at the Android Porting Google Group that he ported Android to an Asus EeePC 701. As Zavin had compiled against an Intel CPU, it turned out to be pretty simple for Matthäus and Daniel to port Android to an Asus EEEPC 1000H.

They also claim that, though Android is a mobile OS (for now), Google intends to expand it to be a sort of universal operating system that will span set-top boxes for televisions, mp3 players and other communication and media devices and services.

One OS to rule them all, one OS to find them, one OS to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.

Yah this looked good against Windows Mobile but they've moved in to the firing line of Windows, Windows has a big advantage because of compatibility with hardware and software, people already know it, which PC manufacture which ship it, Microsoft may use the Netscape strategy against them.

Nothing strange, after all Android is just a linux port with a nice interface but lousy feature.

So, its interesting to run Android on a netbook but its useless since currently you can run a full-fledged version of linux right now.
