In California a 13 year old girl was able to rack up an astounding 14,528 text messages in one month. For those keeping track that's 484 a day which breaks down to 20 an hour or 1 every three minutes, for the entire month! When asked, Reina Hardesty's replied that "I just like to talk", which is ironic because she was texting and not actually talking. Her parents were at least wise enough that they did sign her up for unlimited texting but if they had not her bill would have amounted to $2,811. For more information about the cost of text messaging to the carrier you can read this article as previously reported on Neowin.
Her parents have responded to the outrageous amount of texting by limiting her use of the cell phone in which she responded, "lke omg ur so mean."

Did they write the story and submit it to the front page? It's a big forum, we don't see everything.
PS If you want to hook up with young women (over 18 for me please), get yourself some SMS skillz.

Lmao. +1 right there.
You cant talk on the phone and do other things at the same time? Do you have only one hand?
sure he has two hands, but the other one is "busy"...
I could hardly send 14k messages through msn in a month... how could she do it with SMS on her phone? (I bet her cellphone keypad is dirtier than my keyboard lol)

You bring up a good point. What model phone was she using and what state is it in now?
Indeed, I text a lot but not that much for sure. I've only got 2,345 for January so far.
I don't see how that's even possible, unless every message was about two or three characters. And what of the people she messaged - if her messages were replies, they should also have huuuge numbers of sent texts
How did no-one notice or do anything?
What happened to "Fair usage policy"?
PS. Nice picture xD
Scirwode
I Dont Care = IDC
lol, gg.
Clever.
And that calculation on top looks quite a lot like the one I made in that topic...
Maybe if she spent more time paying attention in class and less time obsessed with her phone she would have at least Kindergarten level English.
Give her land-line only for a month. She will be horrified to learn that she can survive. Her life might even improve!

The most I text is roughly 6500 to 7000 messages a month. I thought that was a great deal of texting.
I have a HTC Fuze and I hope it can handle the abuse I give it.

For my standards (and most people´s for sure), that´s bordeline sick already, let alone the girl!

What do you use it for?
I think a great many of us just cannot understand what you could type in so many messages, so any clarification would be quite enlightening

"Not much"? That's more than one every four minutes of time awake. Don't you speak to her?
That is unless you have "free" text
In the US is it free to send texts??

My mother just got a LG Rumour with a slideout keyboard for texting.
That cartoon is based on http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=4nIUcRJX9-o
And offensive to whom?
head shot would have been more appropriate...natural selection would be too slow.
P.S.
I'm not being "politically correct" either. Its far too easy to dismiss someone just by labeling them that. Child abuse is a real issue whether it be physical, verbal, or sexual. It is nothing to laugh at.....

It's a CARTOON. It is not intended to be real. Just like Tom and Jerry. They hit each other with hammers.
It's a stretch to suggest that's condoning such actions.
PS. I'm not American or in America, thanks.

Actually, back in the days when spanking was allowed and kids knew if they messed up that they were gonna get beat they tended to show a little bit more respect. Now the appropriate punishment is...almost...nothing. "Go to your room!" Yeah great, where they have a PC, TV, and video game systems to play with. Real punishment there. What exactly IS accepted discipline anymore? I've seen the papers from my local child enforcement office about what you CAN'T do to a kid....and reading it leaves you scratching your head and wondering exactly what you CAN do.
I think I'd rather have my child texting than using the phone. I would still like the option of regulating and as far as I know. There are options for parents to do that. Correct me if I'm wrong. If there aren't, we need to set something up.
And the bigger issue here is grammer too. I have a lot bigger issue with grammer than the actually amount of talking that's going on.
Humans communicate faster by voice than hand motions (typed, texted, or sign language). Whether people know when to end conversations is an entirely different story.
No really, why do storys like these suddenly attract posts with "WELL I LIKE DO XX MORE!!"

I know because I repair his computers, I fix his active sync when it acts up, I set up his phone to do the messaging.
So if she sent 2 texts a month of 20,000 it didnt cost them anything...
So they just limited her use of the cell phone because she sends too many texts?
Would they rather she go out taking drugs, drinking alcohol and/or getting pregnant? Seriously. Priorities?
How do you limit someones use of a cell phone anyway? "You can only have it from 3pm to 8pm, the rest of the time we lock it in a safe!". Kinda defeats the purpose.
Would they rather she go out taking drugs, drinking alcohol and/or getting pregnant? Seriously. Priorities?
How is she going to find out where to drink, get high, and get rogered by the football team if she can't text?
Also: do you really that's the alternative? "Well, I can't send a text message so I guess I'll just pound a shot and **** a hobo instead."
Yes, that's pretty reasonable. "no cell-phone during school hours" or maybe "If your next bill says your spending every waking minute messing with your phone then we'll stop paying for it.". You can also call your carrier and have them limit who you can receive or send calls to/from.
Hilarious, thanks. What on earth RobertH was thinking I don't know.
Text or shoot up. Yes, that is the main choice afflicting all young people these days.
Myself (18 ) Do around 12k a month while still in highschool.. My sister who's 15 easily beats that by doing around 15-20k a month.
My friend Kylie supposedly has reachde 36k. And it's Highly believeable if youve ever seen her text.
cause texting can be good at times if you just want to say something quick (or even a couple replies or something along those lines) to a person and dont really need to call them, but if your going to talk THAT MUCH you would be better off just calling them and actually TALKING. lol
and me personally i think 'texting' is best on IM programs like MSN/Yahoo/AIM on a real PC and not a fricking phone. lol

As for the texts, what are they doing in class @_@
I really wish there was a way to deliberately go to voice mail and not make the person's phone ring.
Thus she might write long messages that seem to BLOW out the real amount of messages she sends....
sitting RIGHT NEXT TO HER!
Yeah that is so 1999.
I´m all for holographic messages now, I use them everyday.
Someone throw her in Antarctica...
