Microsoft will be using their Photosynth technology to help stitch together all the images taken from the moment Obama takes the oath to help create a memorable 3D image using thousands of images from viewers. The software giant pulled off a coup for Silverlight when it arranged for the American Presidential Inaugural Committee to use the technology for live streaming and on-demand video of Barack Obama's oath-taking ceremony.
The technology takes all the submitted images from thousands of sources and angles to create a 360 degree visual image that can be viewed from different angles. The image will have a zoom in and out function from close up and shots taken further back, all with incredible detail.
"We're partnering with CNN to gather thousands of your photographs to create an immersive experience of the moment when President Obama takes the Oath of Office. From the vast sweep of the crowd to a close-up on the President's hand on the Bible, every part of this historic scene will be frozen in time and presented in 3-D as only Photosynth can," Microsoft said on its Photosynth blog. "We'll take your photos from every angle, combine them with CNN's professional shots, and produce what we hope will be an amazing experience that will be shown live on CNN."
Users who take images of Obama's inauguration can submit photos to CNN using their submission page with details about the event.
