Update: Google has responded and states "the deer was able to move and had left the area by the time the police arrived".It's a sad fact that deer get hit by cars everyday but not everyday does a Google Maps car hit a deer and record the event. It's a sad fate for the deer but the entire event was recorded and uploaded to the live version of Google Maps.
You can attempt to view the picture here but that particular spot is being hit pretty hard by traffic; a screen capture is posted below.
The Google employee had to have known that they hit the deer but the more interesting thought is why did they proceed to upload the images? Is Google that determined to be the first to map the roads by street view that they don't care what goes live on their site?
Regardless this can be added to the long list of odd and funny things that have been caught on Google Maps.

I'm guessing this is done (automatically?) by using some of the previous and next photos.
This reminded me of...

Complaints of destruction and car accidents were mentioned.
I would like to point out to the motorist, to drive slow in high regions of Deer especially when you are
informed by many signs saying there are lose Deer and they may cross you path.
Remember the Deer were there before the road was built.
The motorist is trespassing on the Deers territory not the other way around.
don't be an ass, the guy is spot on.
bacteria are not animals.
pease check the definition of "animal"
Its not valid, bacteria feeds of humans. The deer was just walking when was brutally murdered by the evil company called google. lol
That's a major faux paus, Google. -5 tact.

more like
Oh dear, a deer, the google car is near!
Yeah, because they totally meant to hit the damn thing.
The vehicle path (white line) makes it look like they did. Nevertheless, they should not have used the footage.
they deleted it.
Yes, it's just plain disturbing... not enough they ran over the deer, they had the bad taste to upload it.
Anyway, here are two less disturbing street view shots where no animals were hurt:

only gotta browse the pics to make sure their not all colored out and have other glitches, imagine goingthrough your photos on your pc just *click* *click* *click*
they drive on the right , so judging by the shot of dear is infront of the car in the first picture
Google killed a deer, what's funny about that.
The answer to your question in bold.
Animals don't understand what cars are.
The smarter ones at least understand that when something bigger then you is rushing towards you that its probably not a good idea to stand still... natural selection
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means...
It's obvious you haven't been in a situation like this.
Yes, they run, of course. But they often panic and start trying to run along the street, and not out of the way. And a car goes way faster than a deer.
Google Killed Bambi
But if the see the deer coming could they not just stop, and let the animal cross the street?
What kind of sick ****s does Google have working for them.
Also deer tend to react irrationally around vehicles. I've seen many deer already out of harms way react badly to an oncoming vehicle, even occasionally the deer will change opposite directions to run directly into the path of the vehicle.
Five Points!
It was almost impossible to avoid the animal, we were not driving fast but any action on our part to avoid it would have ended with us upside-down in a ditch or smashed into trees.
We went full pelt into the beast, there was a sickening crunch and a Deer bouncing off down the road behind us. Well we pulled up and got out to see what we could do, It stood up gave me what i swear was a dirty look and then legged it off.
Two points from this story...
1) Deer are stronger than you think
2) Don't blame the driver, often incidents like this can be impossible to avoid
In our case Deer 1 - Car 0
Oh well, things happen.
Google RoadKill - Enjoy the beauty of nature around you ... well, the dead ones on the roadside anyway.
