Thre is also more customization options on the start menu. My favorite is that you can finally include the Downloads folder among the others (e.g. Documents, Pictures, etc).

I access the Downloads folder more than any other.

That start orb looks horrible on the new taskbar. It just doesn't fit. Is there any chance of it being changed before it's finished? I'm guessing probably not by now.

Of course it is possible. Elements of Vista's UI were changed between the Release Candidate builds.

I agree, i submitted a feedback request to have windows basic updated and also the start button needs some adjustments.

I highly doubt it will change though, from looking at a channel 9 video, they made investments into the start button by making that glowing flare effect.

IMO the problem with the orb is now that it looks to be part of the applications; it doesn't distinguish itself well enough, as it does on Vista.

Thank God.... The 2000 Start menu is circa 1995. It's vasty inferior to the Vista start menu.

If people would just take the time to investigate all of the features of Vista's (and subsequently Win7's) start menu they will quickly learn how vastly superior it really is. It's MUCH quicker when it comes to finding and launching applications.

Oh yeah.... It's also 100X better looking than the 9x/Me/2K Menu and 50X better than the XP menu.

you get a score of 1.0 when you just install the OS. you will need to refresh to see a better score.

If you look in the system tray, you can see the icon for Virtual Box. That's why it only got a 1.0.

Just made a note there as why it would only score 1.0 points with that CPU.
Guess it's cleared now. It's because the graphics card obviously lets it down, also because that's the result you get first time after installing ( needs a refresh to show proper values ) and because it's running on a virtual machine.

yeah i'm really liking it. the blue was fine imo but i can imagine that a lot of people didn't like it. this way you can can set your aero glass colour to anything and it won't clash.

Probably because nvidia doesn't even support it anymore.

Not supporting is not the same as Not offering drivers. Many nVidia products are not supported by nVidia Tech support any more, doesn't mean they stop offering drivers for those hardware items.

Exactly, Nvidia still has downloads for the Geforce 1/2 and even the old TNT cards, and AMD still offers drivers for cards as old as the Rage IIc. It makes sense for Microsoft to remove these since very few people would be running Windows 7 on hardware that old.

lol for me windows 7 came with all the drivers for my eee pc 1000H EXCEPT a network adapter (wired or wireless) which was annoying.

wait about an hour and people will have the build but don't get your hopes up, i would imagine it will be very similar. tbh windows 7 is pretty fast already bit obviously it could be faster.

I believe it would a lot more hard to create updates on an older build then to just start from fresh and continue to replace files with newer files and not have to worry about compiling updates that are to be rolled out to an older build. They want to keep this stuff secret too, they change some UI elements at the end to surprise us, and I'm not talking like vector glass or aero diamond, I mean stuff like polishing of aero glass, changing Windows logon background, changing Windows orb, that kind of stuff. They don't want us to see everything, and knowing that the task pane's background was changed that looked very similar to the logon background can come to conclusion that the background for the Windows logon might have been changed too already in a build we have not seen yet, or will be very shortly.

Your exaggerating big time! One every week? Yeah right! We are lucky this leaked, especially a build like this, they will start changing stuff like the Windows Orb and the Windows Logon background, and it changes into a more final Windows 7. The UI elements they have now are mostly Windows 7 beta material, they use them just to show off to the public so they don't expect anything, most of the time they make something really flashy and cool in beta, but then change it in a release candidate build to something very professional looking but also very nice. In Vista, they changed the explorer detail pane to a plain silver look, they changed the logon background, added the orb, changed the mouse pointer, changed the task pane's background, and so on. This all happened for Vista during switch from beta 1 to beta 2, it also happened during the switch from beta 2 to release candidate. Now because Windows 7 had no beta 1 and it was just Windows 7 Beta, take those 2 cycles of switching and you have to expect some sort of changing of UI elements. These builds that are getting leaked are going to include improvements we can see, and the speed is already great, I can't wait to see the next batch of leaked builds!

meh i wont change ,going to wait till the RC build .

not much i bugs i passed by
1- CEIP crashing windows update and installer > fixed using worked aroud

2- some UI quirk when assessing the hardware with WEI

3- small anyyoance in the network center "coinitialize has not being called" bla bla bla when trying to view network status

i am sure they are fixed by now . i will pass

Does anyone know when updates are going to start being released to Beta testers? I kind of expected updates on the 7000 build as they became available... What's the point in testing old code?

It depends on which testing level you are on, most builds stay internal, some go to connect testers, even fewer go public. They've already announced there will be no more betas, the next release (if it gets a public release at all) will be an RC.

Yeah, but when I ask for Feedback on a product I'm working on I want Feedback on the current version. Reporting bugs and such when that may very well have been fixed in current builds is silly. Feedback is fine, but who knows how many bugs have been fixed in latter builds...

just finished installing Windows 7 build 7022. The installation seemed much faster, maybe 20 minutes tops. Some of the things I noticed during the installation was:

* When my graphics driver was installed for 7000, it caused half of the installer screen to go black in both 7000 x64 and x86. This did not happen in 7022, and seemed fine.
* It no longer asks you to join a HomeGroup during the setup.
* After the second reboot during install, when the bootloader came up there were three options: Windows 7 (this would finish the install), Windows 7 Rollback (Not sure what this does. Possibly rolls back all changed the installer made? New, did not show in 7000), and Windows 7 x86 (my previous installation of Windows 7, normal).

Some things that I noticed right away in the actual build, running it.

* The new sidebar color that was shown in previous screenshots. See below...
* New Paint, as we saw in previous screenshots. See below...

Probably because IE is at RC1, it doesn't suck as bad.

It's nice to see W7 rolling along smoothly. I haven't paid this much attention to a Windows release since 2000. I'm looking forward to W7 actual release and I hope the alternatives to "Adobe Reader's" Bloat-ware are out. (That's the first thing I noticed in the screenshot, someone already defiled their install by installing AR9).

I am still running build 7000, although I did not have this issue on my laptop, I did experience on my desktop. The fix for me was to run the Cisco installer file as Administrator. Worked ever since.

So far i have 3 major issues with the beta build (7000)

1. No inbox drivers for Intel 2200BG. Downloaded drivers from Intel would lose connection so very often.
2. 3945ABG wont connect automatically most of the time. I have to manually connect it. I saw some reports of this from other users as well.
3. IE hangs.

Hopefully in the new build the IE has got better. Will try out soon

Personally I like everything that everyone (in this thread) dislikes.

I've alwyas loved Aero and Windows 7 has improved it.

The start menu button looks great. And I find it distinguishable enough. There is a border around it, unlike any other icons you might place on the taskbar.

I'm also likening the more subtle sidebars in explorer. Let's hope they stay that way.

My fave major/minor enhancement is that you can now include the Downloads folder among the others that appear on the start menu.

It's always the same with Windows operating systems. What some people hate some will love and vice versa. It's impossible to cater for everyone's taste and requirements. I like vista but I love windows 7 even more. They're always going be some haters out there no matter what they do.
