Today at the Mobile World Congress, Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO along with key mobile partners, HTC, LG and Orange, unveiled new Windows phones featuring new user-friendly software and services. These new Windows phones will be powered by the new Windows Mobile 6.5 . Microsoft doesn't plan on releasing Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrades or devices until the second half of 2009.

Along with these, two new services were also unveiled:
  • My Phone - A service to sync text messages, photos, video, contacts and more to the Web
  • Windows Marketplace for Mobile - A new marketplace that will provide direct-to-phone mobile applications and can be accessed from both the phone and the Web

The My Phone service also helps users to automatically upload photos and video from their Windows phone directly to the My Phone service. The My Phone service is currently available in a limited invitation-only beta

With the new Windows Marketplace for mobile, users can buy Windows mobile apps from Windows phones or from a PC by simply using a Windows Live ID. The new marketplace will be included with all Windows phones based on Windows Mobile 6.5, which will help consumers to easily find, install and experience those applications that fit their needs and make the phone truly personal.

Similarly, two of the world's top phone manufacturers displayed their Windows phones

Both come with a free upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5 when made available and are Windows Mobile 6.5 ready

Just posted this in another thread but might as well post it here too.

I have just found the install cab for MyPhone by looking around the myphone site and have been able to install MyPhone, just can't sign in with it.

The Touch Pro 2 looks flipping fantastic , a great upgrade for kaiser users like me

Buy the touch pro . The touch pro 2 has the same internal hardware but is missing the led flash, and the d-pad.

The touch pro also has the hardware start button.

I want to get a new HTC, currently using the Orbit 2 (o2 branded Polaris) but it's getting a little bit scratched up and feels quite bulky compared to others.

Was looking at the Touch HD sadly I'm on PAYG so have to buy the phone myself

Nice to see more support for the Windows Mobile although I'm surprised they are doing 6.5 when there has been all the fuss over 7.

No shots of the store?

Since I guess it's specific to WinMo 6.5 devices you'll have to wait for those to go out before they'll turn the store on.

FFS, another Diamond already?! It's only 6 months old! Now I'll never get a good price for mine!

The HTC Diamond 2 looks great. I wonder how much it will cost. Please, not higher than 300-400 Euro.

O_O Touch Pro 2. I wanted to get the first one, but I'll wait for this... though it'll probably take ages before Sprint gets it.

Why ? The touch pro 2 is pretty much the same as the touch pro. Same internal hardware but the original touch pro has an led flash and d-pad wich the touch pro 2 doesn't

Also any of the software features will be back portable for the touch pro . Go to xda-developers to see.

Big slice of wishful thinking but it would be nice if they let "My Phone" work with the iPhone too...

I wonder how long it will take Verizon to offer these two new phones? I'm looking to upgrade now, so hopefully not too long.

I'm still disappointed Microsoft has a completely different service, when they could just pair this up with Windows Live Sync/Mesh.
