If you thought that VoIP was already a huge hit, the biggest cell phone manufacturer Nokia, has just announced that Skype will be shipping with its entire lineup of mobile phones. Nokia will begin rolling out their mobile phones that have Skype integrated starting with the N97 which is being released to market in Q3 of this year.

"With more than 400 million Skype users worldwide, the integration of Skype on Nokia Nseries mobile computers is a significant step in bringing converged Internet experiences from the desktop to the world's most advanced mobile computer," said Jose-Luis Martinez, Vice President, Nokia Nseries.

Skype Skype is revolutionizing the way people communicate around the world. Skype has more than 405 million registered users globally who use Skype software to communicate for free through voice and video calls as well as instant messages. Conversations over Skype can take place on computers, mobile devices and Skype Certified™ hardware. Skype is used in almost every country on Earth, and people have made more than 100 billion minutes worth of free Skype-to-Skype calls

For U.S. customers, this is going to be a very tricky situation. AT&T currently has very expensive plans for international calls and bringing in Nokia phones with integrated Skype is going to be a huge lose of revenue. So I expect that most U.S. carriers will bring Nokia's new mobile devices to market but strip them of the Skype integration.

Does this version have Wifi capabilities, like its big brother and Fring?

Yes. All Symbian applications can use WiFi as data connection.

Surely not if the customers still have to pay lots of data transfer costs while using the Skype app?

I love Skype. A shame it isn't more popular. Perhaps this news is a signal that better days are ahead for Skype.

Skype on mobiles will be a great service. From what i know it works on lower quality over cellular network to keep data use down and on wifi it runs at full potential.

Skype mobiles are going to be the next big thing. More and more phone companies are turning towards voip apps, someone was only going to do it anyway, so smartphones had to make the jump.
