When your father is one of the richest persons in the world life can't be too bad right? Having direct access to all sorts of Microsoft goodies like a copy of Windows 7, an Xbox 360, and Microsoft Surface, how bad can it really be?Well it's bad if you're a fan of Apple. Melinda Gates reveled in an interview that "[t]here are very few things that are on the banned list in our household. But iPods and iPhones are two things we don't get for our kids."
Melinda does state though that she has been tempted by the iPhone by saying "[e]very now and then I look at my friends and say 'Ooh, I wouldn't mind having that iPhone'"
Do you think its right for the Gates family to ban products from a competitor from their household? It makes you wonder if Steve Jobs bans Microsoft products from his household too.

I personally wouldn't care. Its stupid that people make such a big deal out of that
I sure do hope not... that really would be too freaky.
Poor kids would be scarred for life.

Seeing as its reported on a media god knows whats missing out of it or what part they will make bolder than others.
Unlike you, Ballmer is the CEO of the world's largest software company.

Oh, I understand that. I currently have Word for Mac open on my MacBook, but keep in mind, Microsoft develops iPhone applications, yet they're not allowed
Jobs married Laurene Powell, on March 18, 1991. Presiding over the wedding was the Zen Buddhist monk Kobun Chino Otogowa.[42] The couple have three children. Jobs also has a daughter, Lisa Brennan-Jobs (born 197
From Wikipedia
Yep, Steve has 3 kids I believe.
(yeah, I checked Wikipedia :p)
--> Are they sisters?
ignore the #s too, those are just the quote marks from wikipedia.
If your family owned an auto electrical business and say your car broke down.... You wouldn't go to the competition to get your car fixed would you????!
you would if were far away from your family busniess
what a stupid statement. i dont understand your logic... is it just becuase they're made by Apple, and not Microsoft?
Zzzzz.....
Does the head of Mercedes drive a Saab?....!
This one is even worse. Can a man or woman not simply refuse to buy a product based on their own opinion? Furthermore, he didn't state whether it was just because it was an Apple product. He didn't say anything about other Apple products, but hey, even if he did, so what? He's free to his opinion, and if he doesn't want something, he doesn't have to buy it!
With the economic situation at hand, did anyone stop to think maybe money is an issue?
ROFLMAO! Can't....stop....laughing......
Did you seriously just use that line in regards to Bill Gates? Money an issue?
ROFLMAO! Make it stop! Can't breathe!

ROFLMAO read the first post in this thread, ROFLMAO that's what he meant LOL
+1
I don't care for iTunes, nor the limitations imposed by having to use it. Also the Apple products are quite expensive and have an mp3 player that doesn't plenty for me and don't need a fancy flat phone with a touch screen.
A Mexican is the richest guy in Earth
If he hates the iPhone/iPod, create something that beats it.
When I was younger, I was a huge Gates fan, and I still have a lot of respect for him, but this is dumb.
Already done: Zune, Windows Mobile
While a great businessman however, Gates is apparently no good with marketing
WinMo, on the other hand, sucks.
His kids are only getting about 2% of his fortune i believe.
UK Billion is what US call 1000 million btw.
A US billion is 1,000,000,000 (a milliard - commonly used as billion now)
A US billion is 1,000,000,000 (a milliard - commonly used as billion now)
in dutch we still use it
million = miljoen = 1,000,000
billion = miljard = 1000*million
whatever = biljoen = miljoen * miljoen
It makes sense, which is probably why the americans changed it :p
Welcome to the 20th century.
...oh wait.
I agree!

I wasn't sure which windows you ment.
Probably? He could melt MY brain and I'm in a different time zone :p I'd be careful of that mosquito-touting man.
I bet the Gates family is at least encouraged to eat apples.
I noticed that, too. Sensationalist reporting at its finest.
wouldn't say that unless it was banned.
but i understand why it is, would undermine the whole business ( aka we will make/sell it but not use it ) , especially since MS does MP3Players / Phone OS's )
i agree with Bill/Melinda's decision, its theirs to make. and figured it was common sense that they wouldn't use them, same with about a 0% chance they own a PS3
However, in Bill's house, you would think it's just implied.
(Joking about the Zune part)
a software that doesnt work?
Cowon makes superior MP3 players to any iPod and there were other brands before Apple and Microsoft's.
Does the word Creative mean anything to you?
and creatives devices arent even close
Hell-In-A-Handbasket, the Cowon devices don't seem to be all that great, yes. What do you have against the Creative devices though?
I had 2 Creative MP3 players and both broke of their own accord within about 4 months.
I have had 3 or 4 iPods (I tend to get one everytime they are updated) and not one has broken.
I employ the same rule at my house. I prefer superior products so iPod and iPhone are not permitted.
and "I prefer superior products so iPod and iPhone are not permitted" is an Extreme Opinion also

Id go on but im running out of space
thats astounding
how many already owned mp3's can you put on it or do you have to repurchase them all ?
headphone Jack ?
Feature Expandability ?
App Support ?
yes app and feature are seperate for a reason.
i dont have an iPhone, and wont touch it cause of ATT, but i do have a Touch, and i can do more with my touch then that HTC can.
im pretty shure with exception of the tactile keyboard/copy paste you can do them all on the iPhone also with the App Store, yes even Multi-Task ( diffrent programs already do this )
As much as you want through this marvilous feture called copy and paste
Yes
Yes
Yes
Yes
where is the headphone jack that you say it has ?
and beecause its a windows mobile, im assuming its app store is the same as mine, which isnt much.
and because you just put yes on the music thing is that to assume that you have to repurchase all your music ? as the put mp3's on it wasnt a yes or no question it was a internal storage question
also another rumor says multi-tasking will come to the iphone. just needs that new processor
"app store"Its called the Windows Mobile Marketplace and its been around for a long , long time
Its just copy and paste , Copy the music from your PC to your PDA phone . Magic , The touch pro 2 uses external storage if you want a device wih flash internal storage buy one.
aka stuff in User/my doc wont be in user/mydoc/mymobiledoc which gets syncd to the phone, not mydoc which is the default for almost every win app on the planet
and where is the Windows Mobile Marketplace, last i heard it wasnt out yet, but that was back in augest of 08, each carrier has a app store and it differs for each carrier ( didnt see much in sprints )
ClickedyClick Same place its been for half a decade although PPCwarez has a better selection...
Copy and paste is not a business feature.
Multi-tasking is not a business feature.
Office suite is not a business feature.
Music = copy and paste, no stupid itunes (which may be good on mac but on windows its gotta be the worst program ever made)
External storage with microsd upto 16gb at the moment, with a 32gb card in the works.
As for apps, theres tons of windows mobile apps out there. Sure the iphone may have more, but lets be honest how many iphone apps are useful...
Can you skin your iphone to the extent you can with windows mobile? Change the interface to suit your preference? Custom roms? Blackberry connect? Autofocus camera?
Your not fooling anyone weve had 3 years of this bullcrap , Its just positive spin . I guess thats why 20 million people chose Windows Mobiles in 2008 ...
I doubt the owner of Coca~Cola and the upper echelon of the company, would be caught in public drinking Pepsi Cola... it just wouldn't look right.
Besides, his house - his rules.
Yeah, but they probably have a division in Microsoft for exactly that purpose, wouldn't you think?
Then i went to his house and he had the beer he was selling in his fridge. I told him that its his house and he can always drink the one he likes at least in his home. The discussion ended but he still drinks the ones from his job at home.
It would be different for Bill's kids to use iPhones or iPods because they can be seen in public and the media will feast off it.

Actually [they] refer to it as "black water" - you cant even say the word "Pepsi"
I still don't see the correlation or need to invoke Godwin here. I think you might of wanted to use "Big brother" instead.

'
Does he kick out guests that have apple products to?
Food, water and shelter.
Everything else is a "want"
iPod? Yeah, okay, I can grant that one
But look at what the article said - they simply didn't buy them for the kids. Where did it say that they BANNED them from having one?

I used to work at mcdonalds and I ate at competition. Does that mean I comited a sin? please
Working at McDonalds and eating at Jack-In-the-Box is comparing hamburgers to hamburgers.
Diet Coke and Whole Foods are NOT competitors. John Mackey having diet coke his fridge after he spent almost 30 years building a "organic and natural foods" company would make him a big hipocrite.
Dude - you have comments all over the place on here - do you actually still have a job, or did McDonalds fire you for eating a Taco Bell?
There is such thing as a "day off"
Its kinda like not being able to have friends who are better looking than you are...
All of a sudden that Zune looks pretty cool
2: The latest ones aren't the size of a brick.
where do you get the idea they are not allowed in his house? all he said was he doesn't buy them for his kids.
This is different -- Bill and Melinda arent saying their kids cant have cellphones or MP3 players, they are banning a particular brand
Yours and my parents might have banned cigarettes when we were youn, but they didnt say "no Marlboro !!"
It's a personal choice. Get out of their lives, it doesn't really concern ANY of us to be honest.
