YouTube has a lot of features, and sadly, not everybody knows about them. YouTube-owner Google is aware of this, and has decided to utilize YouTube's well established community to promote the less popular features, in order to get them used more often. They've dubbed this new service 'Adopt a Feature', and anybody can contribute.

According to YouTube's blog post, this is how it will happen:

1. Select one or more features from the list below [follow the link].

2. Make a video about that feature (of course, it must adhere to our Terms of Service) and be sure to use the precise tags we've indicated for each feature.

3. We'll start tracking how your videos are impacting that feature's performance and offer a play-by-play in this blog, notating which users are making the greatest impact with their videos. Our first update will be two weeks from today, March 17, so get cracking!

4. The most successful video(s) will be featured on our home page and live for all eternity in our Help Center, and you will get the satisfaction of knowing that you helped the feature live a long and productive life.

Unfortunately, there may be some issues with the service; it's unlikely that a high quality video done by a member with a small fan base will be noticed over a lower quality video done by a person with subscribers into the thousands. It's unclear if YouTube will be watching every single video, but they will monitor how the videos affect the feature's performance, and which video makes the biggest impact. Some may consider this lazy on YouTube's part, but it will entice the community to get more involved, which is always a good thing.
