The 7-inch screen sized Eee PC netbook, made by Taiwanese company Asus, is to be phased out in mature markets, according to ZDNet UK.Company chairman, Jonney Shih, said in a press conference at the CeBIT technology show on Tuesday that the company would be focusing its efforts on 10-inch netbooks, as customers prefer them to the smaller models however, Shih denied reports that Asus would be phasing out its 8.9-inch netbooks as well.
Shih said, "It seems that customers prefer to have a greater screen, which also means a larger keyboard. I still believe we have a good opportunity in 8.9-inch for kids, telecoms [providers] or emerging markets. The seven-inch [netbook] is going to be phased out, although some emerging countries may still have some demand."
The company also announced a slight rebranding of itself and the Eee PC, changing its motto from "Rock Solid. Heart Touching" to "Inspiring Innovation. Persistent Perfection", and changing the meaning of the Eee PC's acronym from "Easy to learn, easy to work, easy to play" to "Easy, excellent, exciting." When Shih was asked by ZDNet UK if he felt that Asus was "at risk of diluting the Eee brand" he said that Asus does not want to "treat the brand as a low-cost notebook concept".
"The PC has to proliferate into [other] digital appliances. It will enable far more people to enjoy the digital life. 'Eee' is a sub-brand to enhance the Asus brand, but also with a little bit of differentiation," he said.

Otherwise it's a very nice piece of kit
the 7in screen was never really that popular after the 900 and 901 came out. It was just a matter of time really before the tech got cheap enough.
The huge Bezel on those 7 inch screens just look bad.

The smallest "full-sized" laptop is 14 inches. I think we'll be splitting hairs if a "netbook" is 12 inches, and a laptop is >12 inches. The current body-size and keyboard size of netbooks is perfect IMO. >92% of full-size keyboards is very comfortable for me. I could type on my SAMSUNG NC10 all day without any problems. However, I think they could still put about 0.5" to 1" larger screens on the same body. There is quite a bit of padding around the screen. It is kind of strange (at least at first) for the keyboard to be larger than the screen (as it has been vice-versa for most of my life). But the size of the netbooks is just about right IMO.
Either way I think our points are the same: if emzino needs something bigger then he doesn't need a netbook.
If you go lighter, then you're probably talking about shaving battery weight, which means you end up carrying your charger with you everywhere.

The smallest was and is 12 inches (without counting rare cases).
for example the Dell XPS M1210.

How does "an inch or two" larger than a 7 inch screen equal a 12 inch screen? That would put it at 8 or 9 inches. The size of the Acer Aspire One screen is 8.9 inches, so that would be a good choice for you.
Love the 701.
I still would love a replacement for my Sharp Zaurus SL-C3100.

The 901 is almost exactly the same as size as the 701, it just has a smaller bezel.
