It was bound to happen sooner or later but it appears that the iTunes gift card algorithm has been hacked by someone in China. According to Outdustry an iTunes gift card with a face value of $200.00 can be bought for as low as $10.00 with reports that they are selling for as cheap as $2.60. Apple has not officially commented on the matter yet but it seems a change will have to be made to the current algorithm.
A scary thought may be that the algorithm being generated by the Chinese could be on an actual $200.00 card on store shelves right now, potentially leaving a legitimate consumer out of luck. If that would happen the consumer may face little chance of ever recovering their money. If this turns into a widespread problem it could spell disaster for iTunes reputation.

Joking aside, this is bad news.

Taobao is in Chinese, but you could find a taobao shopping agent. They will accept paypal and help you buy almost everything on taobao.com. Try http://c2cagent.com
well technically they would be downloading the music itself legally...just aquiring the funds illegally.
Which, could potentially be worse...
not all music on itunes can be found elsewhere....
I say the same thing to people who come home from china with their bags full of pirated dvds.
Why bother buying when you still don't support those who made the movie?
The quality of torrents is usually a lot better than the street-rips anyway.
It'll be just like the generated XP serials that screwed some paying customers.
I'm sure all will be rectified if this is in fact the case.
They can prove when they bought the card with a receipt, and if the card # has been used prior, of course they will get a refund.
The hacker wants money...
+1 lol
If you can't afford something, then it is wrong to get it via illegal means. Why not make do with what you can afford, the legal way?
Yes, and why bother paying for stuff in the shops, you should just steal it. Given that you have a weak economic country... Oh and why stop there? Seen a new car you want? Don't buy one, go steal it!
If i dont have money i would not buy a car, but when we are talking about virtual stuff on internet, beleive me i dont give a **** its all illegal.why should i buy with my own money when my job is 150 Euros in a month.
Think again what should i do ?!
Buying with my own money or share it via torrents.

After thinking again what you should do, I say, do nothing! If you can't afford it, then you can't have it, simple as that. It's unfair to steal from people which is why it is against the law.
Also, music is not a "virtual" thing as you call it. It is still a product, just like a car is.
Anyway you are right.I have some things that i like but i have listened them first via torrents.
Do you get me now what i like to say?
For example: I have my album would you buy it or you will like to listen it first and then buy if you like it.
That's my point.
Thanks
Budget? Find another job? Live within your means? Lose the "entitlement" attitude?
Tell ya what. Go to a store and steal a chocolate bar. When you are arrested, tell the authorities that you don't make enough money to pay for it and I am sure they will let you go.
Does your employer expect you to work for free? No. So why should all the people who work to make music for you do it for free?

He made valid points. There's really no need for name calling or telling someone to [< snipped > - Calum] for voicing their opinion. People resort to name calling when they don't have a legitimate rebuttal. ;-)

Hey man, if you want to break the law... that's your deal. If you're going to post about doing so, expect some blow-back.
And then wonder why the economy is weak to begin with. Heh
Wouldn't it be prudent to delete this entire thread considering it's about illegal activity?
(Seesh, that's a first. Had to bury through all of these posts to find someone who didn't say something like, "If you're going to download music illegally, why not do it the proper way?
Well as post 22 alludes to, there was a discussion about the integrity of the original post.
Why I just stick to buying CDs and ripping them myself.
I have deleted many off-topic and inappropriate comments in this news article. We have said many times before - the news articles are a place to discuss the content of the article and not how it is written. The news comments are certainly not a place to discuss Neowin's policies or its rules.
If you have a problem with how an article is written or if you think one of our articles breaks a rule of our's, then please use the 'Report a Problem' feature. To address some concerns many of our members have had in this article -
Neowin does not condone downloading or buying illegal products. We also do not allow members to link to illegal products. If members are found doing so, the correct procedures will be taken. For more information on this, please read our community rules.
Linking to such things in our news articles is completely different to a member posting such things in comments or forum posts. As News Staff member, Sam Symons Live, pointed out - many technology news websites do such things. This doesn't mean we condone that sort of activity. Linking to such things helps get the news across to readers and acts as proof or a "source" to the news being delivered. Just because we link to it in a news article, it does not mean we are saying you should be dishonest and follow what the link does/says.
Now, please, everyone stay on topic and continue to enjoy the news articles, discussing the article being delivered. Thank you

For all you non-UKers, PayPoint is a yellow machine we have in the UK which we can top up our mobile phones, electricity etc...
Why Apple would honor an unpurchased code is beyond me.
